Can You Blog Or Journal Everyday?

There was a time when I wrote in my journal books almost everyday. Then I switched to writing or sharing on my private blog daily. Now that my blog is mostly about quilting, I'm lucky if I blog three or four times a month. I wonder if I can blog everyday like I used to and not always about quilting. I'm really not sure! Can you or do you blog almost everyday?

All of this started in my head after an email conversation with Mary at Needled Mom. We've blogged together for years (I love her blog), but we've both tapered off a lot. We're busy and wonder where the time goes. So, where the heck does it go!

My old private blog is packed with memories! I opened it to a post I made on February 21, 1999. It wasn't much of anything, but it brought back a happy time I'd totally forgotten about.

Up On The Hill
Linda and I climbed out of her car and walked to this point overlooking St. George just
so we could take a picture. We were exhausted from the hike!

When I we first bought a house in Utah, my sister (Linda) and I would go on adventures during the weekends we'd get together. In 1999 we'd taken a hike, which was really not that big of a hike, but we had so much fun. Two old ladies walking up the little mountain took a lot out of us!

Photos make blogging memories so much easier. Here's a few I took over the last couple of days.

The newest Monkey Baby...I could stare at her all day.

The youngest Monkey Boy with powdered sugar on his nose.
He makes me smile all the time!

I bought a Juki in December and just sewed on it for the first time the other day.
I love it, but I also love my Bernina.
That project is for the "Time in a Bottle" blog hop coming next month.

I met Jackie Chan in 2008 or 2009 when he came to the office I worked at. I love his shoes! That's me on his right in a black suit and looking rather slim...those were the days! All of us were dressed in animal prints for some reason. Wish I'd written down the reason for that!

I love his "diary" quote: "My schedule goes: wake up, running, exercise, downstairs, running shoes off, then to the shower. That's the Jackie Chan diary." - Jackie Chan

There's a group of ladies that join LeeAnna at "Not Afraid of Color" and post things they like every Thursday. Some of them are incredibly faithful about posting. I tried to do it, but I failed. It's really fun to read their "likes"!

I can't make a promise to myself or anyone else that I'll blog more, even though I know it's good for the soul to record our memories. But maybe, just maybe I can do better. You all know I'll be here for sure once a month for the blog hops!

  1. I am always amazed at the people who post daily. I find life has gotten in the way with blogging and quilting the past couple of years. But isn't it a great way to look back and remember?

  2. I too only blog about mostly quilting. I do like to go back and read about my previous thoughts about a project or event in my life. I don't know if people would be able to stand it to find out how boring I am if I wrote about everything. I do have a five year diary, which gives you space to only write a sentence or two, where I keep track of the big events of each day.

  3. How did we find time to blog so often? I really enjoy reading blogs and am amazed with those who post so often. It is certainly fun to go back and read some of the older posts. I always enjoy seeing one from you.

It’s been fun watching the little monkeys growing up. The wee monkey girl looks so sweet. I can understand you wanting to watch her all the time.

  4. I think I used to post more frequently but it has turned into a quilting/sewing blog rather than a "life" blog. Perhaps it'd be fun to try and do a dedicated month to posting everyday... March is just around the corner ;-)

  5. My life isn't interesting enough to post every day. I do try and post about finishes and good bits of progress for link-ups.

  6. Sweet Monkey Baby and Monkey Boy! I created my blog just for my quilting but find myself still not posting as often as I originally intended. Ditto for my journal--thought I'd write every day or every other day and somehow end up lapsing for months or even years...

  7. Love that picture of you with Jackie Chan and love his shoes. He's the only one wearing colorful shoes!

I find that blogging isn't all that hard but I have to stop what I'm doing in order to do it. When I finish, I tell myself I should do it more then a couple of months pass. I'm not sure I want to incoporate my personal life with my quilting blog though. I do like reading about others, but I haven't found that niche yet.

Thanks for sharing. I will think about it.

  8. Some days I can't even remember if I put on my underwear! LOL!! Just kidding. I have no idea where time goes, but it sure has left me behind, it seems like. Full time babysitting has taken a chunk out of my life, but I wouldn't change that for the world. I know you know, what I mean with your sweet monkey family! Thankfully we have an incredible blogging community that understands life changes from time to time, and we still support each other.

  9. I don't know if I've every posted every day of the week, but when I'm on a roll, I can usually get at least four days in. However, it takes a lot of time to put posts together, and sometimes I'd rather just sew! Your two little monkeys are darlings - enjoy them (I know you do!). There is nothing more fun than a Jackie Chan movie - pretty cool that you got to meet him, and yes, his shoes rock!

  10. What a great photo and great memories
I tried in December and January to blog every day M-F and I kinda did it.... Its a tough routine to make sure you get in front of the computer each day ;-)

but I do like looking back at the memories

  11. I used to keep a regular journal, but that was before I was married. Now I have someone to talk things over with, so I haven't done as well! I keep my blog to quilting related things, and even though I am quilting nearly every day, I am not that faithful about blogging more than once or twice a month, if I'm lucky. I'm usually too busy quilting for other people and don't have enough knowledge yet to do better at regular posts. That is one of my 2022 goals though - work on getting better at posting to my blog and other social media platforms. I also know that I need a blog/brand makeover! Well, when I get the time...

I have loved watching your little monkeys grow up! And that baby girl is the sweetest thing ever! I think she has melted Grandma's heart!

  12. Other than eat and brush my teeth, there's very little I can do every day. I'm not a routine person all that much. I once bought one of those 5 year journals and I think I did it for a month. I admire those with discipline, but that's just not me. Thanks for asking this question. I love to see the many answers and really...Jackie Chan looks very nice!

  13. Yes, you can write every single day. But you need a reason outside yourself. I could never have done it, until my husband had a stroke and I needed to keep his family informed. And then when he recovered somewhat, I found that he only told me how he was doing if I asked him what I should write for his family that night.
And so it continues, six and a half years now. Some nights you are right - there is nothing going on. So I tell them what we had for dinner, or what we can see out the picture window.
I have found the very best part of the quilting blogs is the human stories. The quilts are fabulous (if a bit daunting in their beautiful design and execution!). But the quilters, the people themselves, are the treasure.

  14. I do wonder where the time goes. I have never been good at diaries. I am pretty good at blogging when I have something to show, but lately, that has crawled to a halt. Things change and our energy ebbs and flows, and so must we. That being said, I am hoping to feel more inspired as the weather changes and look forward to seeing more from you, too! I love the pictures of the kiddos - that baby is so so sweet.

  15. Hi Carol! Oh my goodness - the newest addition to the Monkey clan is just too precious. Powdered sugar on the nose - it means it was good enough to dig into!! LOVE it! I used to journal every day way back in the day when there was paper calendars. I guess moving to an online blog was inevitable for me, albeit a long time in coming. Don't stress over trying to blog every day! Do it when you can. When the mood hits you. If you want to give Thursdays a try again I think you'd enjoy it. You have a lot of things to like/love in your life that you'll want to share. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
