Zombies Or The Need To Sew

My goofy family long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away

My family can be pretty funny sometimes. We're all fans of the TV series The Walking Dead (zombies are included in the story line) and have some interesting conversations about what we'd do if zombies tried to take over or a disaster of epic proportions occurred. Just to make it clear, we DON'T really believe in zombies, but we love the what-if conversations and the laughs we have while discussing them.

That being said, this is the text message I received from daughter #2 today that totally made me smile and maybe even a little bit LAUGH OUT LOUD:

What does a dream mean when you dream of sewing massive amounts of quilts with your Mom?
A.  I need to sew
B. I need to prepare for an upcoming zombie apocalypse or other future disaster
C. I just dream crazy
D. I miss my Mom and love her

I told her "all of the above." I just love that girl!

FYI--If you get creeped out by scary stuff, don't look at the following photo she created of herself as a zombie (she's much prettier, but should zombies attack, she will fit right in looking like this):

On a lighter and less weird note, we have a frilly blog hop coming up that has me thinking
RUFFLES!

I definitely have the need to sew and have been busy making girly kind of things that involve lots of
RUFFLES.

Hugs And Kisses From Me To You!

YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THIS BLOG HOP!

Oh my! What fabulous paper piecing patterns these two came up with for this blog hop!

Thank you!

I LOVE to paper piece, so this was a wonderful treat for me. My quilt has 11" finished blocks and is made with "2wenty Thr3e" fabric by Cosmo Cricket. The pattern (with a few changes like adding the paper pieced blocks) came from the book "Happy Hour" by Atkinson Designs.

I LOVED how it was beautifully stitched by Quilted Works.

My hubby and I took a road trip to find a nice spot to take a photo of my quilt. We ended up at the Gunlock Reservoir in Gunlock, Utah. It was a great trip and I LOVED spending time with my hubby!

You can skip all this if you want to, but here's some interesting trivia about Gunlock: The town of Gunlock was named after William Haynes "Gunlock" Hamblin who was born Oct. 28, 1830, and was married to Mary A. and Betsy Leavitt. He died on May 8, 1872, in Nevada from poison given to him so he couldn't testify concerning a silver mine he had discovered and was selling. He was the father of 17 children, and was given the nickname "Gunlock" by George A. Smith, for whom he drove a wagon across the plains and worked for him as a gunsmith. He got his fame for his great marksmanship. At 50 paces, he shot the bottom from a pipe bowl without touching the rim. He won a $50.00 bet.

Whew! The thought of 17 children makes me hyperventilate! You'll also note that he had two wives...at the same time. I LOVE this kind of historical info that makes anyone's genealogy much more interesting!

I fell in LOVE with the heart and arrow, so I made a nice little Valentine pillow using it.

I'm Just A Little Wordy...500th Post Giveaway!

Obviously, I must get a little wordy and blog post crazy, because
I just noticed this morning that my next post would be
#500
...so, of course, I automatically thought
GIVEAWAY TIME!

Today when I stopped off at Scrap Apple Quilts and was talking to
Linda (she's such a cutie and it's so fun to talk quilty stuff with her), it was my luck to also
get to chat with Judy Corry who designed the quilt pattern, Jacob's Dresden.

I used Judy's pattern to make this quilt with Ladies Diary fabric.
(NO, this quilt isn't part of the giveaway!)

Well.....
I had lots of people ask about the pattern so when I mentioned it to Judy she generously
offered me the pattern as a giveaway for this post. Is that just the nicest thing! Thanks, Judy!

I'm also throwing in a Robert Kaufman solid Kona Charm Square pack just for fun!

The pattern can be found at the Scrap Apple Quilts online shop HERE if you would like your very own copy and don't want to wait to see if you win in my little giveaway. They also sell the Dresden ruler to make this beautiful quilt and have some Ladies Diary fabric left in their store. Their contact info is on their website HERE. I can visualize this quilt in so many other fabrics and would love to make another one!

She Who Sews...That's Me!

Two, YES two, blog hops happening!
You can find both schedules

Thanks to Madame Samm of Sew We Quilt for her creative ideas and encouragement,
and Carla of Creatin' in the Sticks for managing two hops at once and keeping us on track!

All my projects are made with She Who Sews fabric by Quilting Treasures.
The fabric's art is so detailed and is just fun to look at!

As you know, I'm not the LEAST BIT competitive with That Other Lady, but after I saw her monster-sized bag for her light box, I knew I needed to make a big bag, too. Mine is not as big as That Other Lady's (so she wins), but at 26" X 27" it fits my embroidery module perfectly and will keep it dust free.

That embroidery module is so big and heavy, but it didn't come with a bag.

This is an embroidery design that matches She Who Sews fabric.
It took about two hours to embroidery this little beauty!

Don't we all just love those Tammy Bags!

I love having this ironing board sitting next to my sewing machine for quick presses.
I layered a small board with batting, thermal batting, flannel, and my fabric.

A small lap quilt keeps my feet warm while I do my hand stitching.
There's no batting, just soft chenille fabric for the back.

Thanks for dropping by to visit!

Super Bowl And Bread Pudding Muffins

I've been eating fresh guacamole and yummy barbecue pork chops, all made by sweet hubby for our own little Super Bowl party. It was just us, no Monkey Boys...darn! A little too quiet for me!

And then there was dessert...

I've been saving two little jars of homemade salted caramel rum sauce for the next time I made bread pudding.
That would be today.

Those two yummy jars of goodness came all the way from Madame Samm and seriously, this stuff could be eaten by the spoonful all by itself! It definitely was a decadent treat drizzled over the top.

I hope you've all had a great day!

P.S. Just in case you want the recipe for making bread pudding in muffin tins, here it is:

B.A.R. BREAD PUDDING

Makes 12 large muffin-size

Mix together:

·                  7 eggs
·                  1/2 cup sugar

Add:

·                  2 cups half and half or cream
·                  1 teaspoon vanilla (or almond) flavoring
·                  1 to 2 teaspoon cinnamon

Pour egg mixture over:

·                  8 cups stale/dry bread, cubed (use a variety of bread types like wheat, rye, challis, white, raisin bread, but make sure to include 2 croissants)
·                  2 apples chopped (peeled or unpeeled)
·                  1/2 c. blueberries, fresh or frozen
·                  ½ - 1 cup raisins
·                  1/2 cup large dark chocolate pieces (optional, but it makes it so good)

Mix all together in big bowl (use your hands or a big spoon to toss it around.) Don't let it get soggy.

Pour into greased large muffin tins.

Baking instructions:

Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes; turn heat up to 450 degrees for 5-7 minutes to make the top crust crispy.

Serve with ice cream or whipped cream. Drizzle with caramel or lemon sauce, if desired.
