I'm so glad you've stopped by to visit my blog and to check out my
project for the X-Block Blog Hop. Have you seen these really cool templates
that take a sewn block and turns it into something totally different by just a
slight rotation of the block? You're going to love the X-Block templates!
It is so nice of Amy at Sew Incredibly Crazy to host this blog hop for
Doris of Quilting Queen Online who's the new owner of X-Blocks templates.
Thank you Amy and Doris!
I used the 6 1/2" X-Blocks template and based my quilt on a block in the book
"X-Blocks Land". The book has some amazing ideas for using the templates.
I created the block from "Knight Time" and planned to make it just like it was in the book.
But then...I started flipping the blocks around and came up with something totally different.
That's what's so fun with these X-Blocks!
I call this version, "The Queen's Apple"
This might or might not be a poisonous apple
Here it is in lighter colors...much easier to see the layout of the X-Blocks!
You can find the X-Block templates HERE!
Several other quilters took on this X-Block challenge for the blog hop:
Shhh...don't tell anyone, but it's my birthday today.

I made my first x-block quilt last week, and loved how it turned out.
Thanks for sharing with us today!
I love what you did with this! So fun and whimsical. Nice to be on the blog hop with you.
Carol, I love your X-block quilt and the apple is a crowing touch to the beautiful black and white quilt. Thanks for showing the accompanying book. I kept thinking that the name sounded familiar. When I saw the book, I went "Oh, yeah!" I think I might have that book upstairs in my stash room somewhere. I think I bought it a couple of years ago at a quilt show at the fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. I brought it home and put it in the upstairs room and never looked back. Now, I'm really sorry. It sure looks that there is a lot more to X-blocks than I remember or at least that I could think about affording on that trip. Thanks for the inspiration.
Happy Birthday! Amazing prizes. Thanks!
Happy Birthday and I hope you keep on celebrating every day. This quilt is sew Dramatic and Stunning! The pop of the apple is genius! Thank you for hopping. <3

Hi Carol,
I saw your post on Sunday and didn't get a chance to leave a comment then. This is so darn cute - I am working on a herringbone quilt right now, and this reminds me of it. I love the apple! Oh this would be perfect for so many occasions but especially for a teacher, don't you think?! LOVE!

I love that you were able to use your creativity with this tool. Some tools limit imagination, but it seems that this is one of those that enhances it. Your results were striking!
Happy Birthday! These x blocks are new to me, but I love the variety you can get out of them. I think there might be one in my future!
The x blocks are pretty unique. I'm liking the different designs that can be made with them.

I had these rulers for years but never used them. After reading your post I am definitely going to dig them out this weekend. Your work is very inspiring!
I missed your birthday, but happy belated birthday. Hope TODAY is great too. These rulers look interesting. I might just give it a try.
xx, Carol
The Queen's Apple is awesome!
that apple-lique (if you will) is genius on this quilt!
Just getting around today to see all the blogs who featured the ruler today... but this is awesome Carol, it's funny I have seen this book and its contents and never associated it to X-Blocks or having the ruler, I just knew I liked the projects in the book. That you took and totally turned it around is also really cool as when I was watching the video lessons for the ruler I too thought how cool it would be to use on some of these really old swap blocks I have from the 1990s... so I totally get wanting to play with the ruler.
I hope you have a wonderful birthday. Hugs
Love your quilt!
