Turning A Beach Ball Into A Pincushion

Actually, turning a beach ball into a pincushion isn't all that hard,
especially since I used Crafter's Edge Beach Ball die and Crossover II.

The package comes with full instructions on making the ball and
two sizes of fabric dies...3" x 4" and 2.25" x 3". I used the smaller one.

One edge of the fabric die is smooth and needs to be placed on the fold.
The cutting edge is not sharp, but can cut up to six layers.
I cut one folded layer at a time so that I was accurate with the placement.

The pressure knobs are easily adjusted to cut the type of material you are using.
Instructions are included to help with this.

The Beach Ball die didn't require iron-on fleece, but I used it for the pincushion.
Therm O Web's Heat n Bond is my favorite for this type of project!

Cut six fabric shapes and six iron-on fleece shapes.

Iron the fusible fleece to the wrong side of the fabric section.
Be sure to cover it with a protective cloth when ironing it.

Follow the directions that come in the package to sew the sections together with a 1/4" seam.
Don't forget to leave an opening about 1 1/2" on the side to turn it inside out.
The directions say 1", but 1 1/2" works best because of the fleece.

A funnel helps to get more of the nut shells in the pincushion instead of on the
counter, but you can also stuff the pincushion with Polyfil. Either one works quite well.
There's a large variety of nutshells out there, so choose the one you like best.

Once you're finished filling the pincushion, stitch the opening closed by hand.

The fabric die comes with a small circle to add to the Beach Ball project, but
adding a button and wrapping embroidery thread around it made it more of a pincushion.
It was so easy and went together fast.

Thanks for stopping by to see my pincushion!

My First Pincushion Swap

I have to admit, not only is this my first pincushion swap, it's my first swap ever.
Beaquilter called for people to join her swap and I jumped in with a "yes."
All I have to do is swap three pincushions with three different people.

And then I panicked. What the heck am I doing in a pincushion swap!
I started freaking out that the first recipient, Holly, wouldn't like what I made.
Maybe it wouldn't be good enough. Yikes!

I then I calmed down and said to myself, "GET OVER IT!"
Sometimes I have to step out of my comfort zone, so I did.

Holly likes Tim Holtz fabrics and a little steampunk...

I survived my first swap...whew!
Now two more to go. I'll be fine. I think. Maybe. LOL

Getting To Meet Blogger Friends Is The Best!

Look!
It's me and Sherry from Createology
Blogger friends are so fun to meet in person.

I felt like I'd known her for years and our time together just flew by.
Her guy and my guy chatted away next to us while we crammed a lifetime of stuff
into an hour and half. Next week I hope to drag her to Superior Threads and Quilted Works.
Or, maybe it's her dragging me...either way works for me! I can't wait!

I love, love, love the sweet little treat she brought me...a bunny pincushion!
It looks perfect by my old machine. Thanks, Sherry! Creepy Bunny likes it, too.

Darryl from Patchouli Moon Studios was suppose to meet us, but it didn't work out.
Missed you, Darryl!

I've been sewing, really I have. Maybe I'll have something to show in a day or two.

The Quilt Group Makes A Birdie

I met with The Quilt Group the other day and we all attempted to make a birdie pincushion.
I think we needed some professional help with this one.

Maybe it was that we were talking too much.
Maybe it was the lack of cookies or too much sugar from all the Christmas goodies.
Whatever it was, we ended up with some pincushions that were...uh...interesting.

They weren't even close to being as cute as the birdies Deonn from Quiltscapes made.
Oh, sweet, sweet Deonn, I wish you had been there to help us!
She made the most beautiful birdie pincushions...you can find the instructions
over at Riley Blake HERE and trust me, they are adorable!
I'm definitely going to try to make these at home on another day!

I used Deonn's folding method to make these three trees for the giveaway basket.
Putting them in a clear gift bag and tying them up with some tulle makes them so much more fun.

One of the birdie makers, Sharon, had one of these to use for making her corners look perfect.
This is absolutely going on my to-do list to make for myself and for gifts.
A skewer, glue, and some beads...easy and so useful!
What a great gift this would make for anyone who sews!

I'm off to write Christmas cards...just a few...less than 20, and some of them will be hand delivered.
I remember the days when I would send out at least 50 cards.
Those days are gone, gone, gone due to the price of postage, plus I don't have THAT many friends!

The hubby and I took a long walk in the wonderful weather to take pictures for our card.
I'll show you a few pics later and which one we picked to send out.
Are you sending Christmas cards this year?

Jeepers Creepers Is It Halloween Yet?

I sew a lot slower these days, but it is really a nice change. There were times I was whipping out 7-9 projects a month. Way too much! Now ...
