I've been known to rescue animals on a few occasions and most of them end up staying for years.
I'm not sure, but I think stray animals see a nonexistent neon sign on my house that says,
"Lost or Stray Pets Welcome Here!"
During a recent blog hop I made a quilt that included almost all the names of my family's pets.
Using Amy Bradley's pattern, I created a quilt that makes me smile every time I look at it.
The front of the quilt has 11 dogs, 7 cats, a bunny, and an iguana, all made using Dr. Seuss fabrics,
including the Lorax fabrics. Each pet's name is hand embroidered on the appliqued collar.
Besides the dogs and cats, the quilt includes the names of our snakes, bunnies, hedgehogs and hamsters.
(Only a few hamsters made the list because there was only so much room on my quilt.)
(Only a few hamsters made the list because there was only so much room on my quilt.)
It's a wonderful memory quilt of all our pets (minus the gazillion pet rats we had.)
The back of the quilt has a hedgehog, snake, my superpower label created by my grandson, and a hamster.
Bruster, a rescue dog, likes his name on the quilt
He also thinks it's his quilt to sleep under

Your pet quilt is so adorable! What an awesome way to remember your pets. We have also rescued many cats and now we only have two left, Duchess and Goldie.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt (and the sweet model). As a farm we had many cats, but my fondest pet was the old cow dog - half collie/half english shepard. We lost him a day shy of his 19th b'day. Now I have the two spoiled fur babies (kitties) - both rescues - Moe & Bella.
ReplyDeleteI think it SHOULD be Brewsters quilt. he looks so happy under it. we have two rescue cats, Phoebe and Dunkin (named after Dunkin Donuts where someone dumped him off as a baby)
ReplyDeleteI love your pet quilt. I have had birds as pets for more than thirty years now. Knut and Sixten are the name of my cockatiels. They are male birds, Knut is 18 years old and Sixten is the younger one with 8 years only.
ReplyDeleteI just love your quilt. My most recent pet was a gorgeous elderly Bichon Frise called Boyd. We took him on my father's request, when Dad was finding it difficult to look after him properly. He was a very gentlemanly dog who I really loved.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute quilt! Wow, you have lots of pets. Omalley is our longtime rescue cat. We had 4 but are down to 2 now. The other is Jasper and she is half his age.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute quilt and Bruster is adorable! Right now my cats are: Precious, Squeeky, Muffin, Tiger, Oreo, Custard and Cupcake.

Love your quilt. What a great idea.
ReplyDeletePets? Ok, here are all my family pets since I was born. Sam, Lucy, Cochise, Margery, Leonardo, Fritz, Merlin, Ooo-ooo Pigeon, Smoky, Hannah, Ed, Cringer, Monte, Cecil.
Current pets. Mavis, Rhoda, Jake, Lowell, Earl, Ollie, Eugene.
Love the quilt and the fabric. My fav. pet's name was Prince and he was a wonderful collie.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a wonderful quilt, full of memories. Growing up we had lots of animals, Hamsters, Guinea Pigs, various birds, Rats, Dogs and Cats. My favorite was the Great Dane, Cinderella.
ReplyDeleteI just love this sweet quilt. And I see that Bruster is modeling right by his name.... such a clever dog! If I can only mention one name, I choose Oliver. Thanks to Creepy Bunny for taking good care of the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOmg your dog is so cute! Every time I lay a quilt on the floor to snap a pic or start pinning there is Jackson!
ReplyDeleteI remember this quilt and I just love it. Unfortunately we currently don't have any fur babies but I do miss my Frankie. Someday we will get a pet or two for the kidlets.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute quilt! We don't have any pets now, but I sure do miss our last dog, Chelsea. She was 17 years old when she died.
ReplyDeleteBruster is adorable. I've had a lot of kitties. Current kitties are Gracie and Smitty, but some of the cats I've known and loved would be Benjamin, Katie, Tabby, Tommy, Peanut, Willy, George, and Krissy. We had Krissy for 19 years, and she was a love.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt. My fav pet was my little Fro who we lost 3yrs ago but he was the best friend ever.

A humorous quilt indeed! Our bichon frisse is named Rosey. My daughter chose the name when we got the dog ten years ago. Funny to me, for my childhood bff has the same name!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, I love the idea of a pet memory quilt.
ReplyDeleteCurrently we have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, wonderful little dog, Lillie and Daisy and one 17 year old cat Misha. These are just the most recent in a life filled with pet companions.

Your quilt is wonderful! And creepy bunny.... well I bet he scares away the burglars... oh that is Bruster's job... My Zeke(also a rescue dog) does a good job of announcing anyone who dares to enter my yard.
ReplyDeleteCarol, Your creepy bunny is creepy. I can't pick just one...I had a dachshund named Molly, who looked alot like Bruster, lived to be 14, Lucy who I picked up off the highway she always appreciated that, she lived with me 13 years, and my Ranch Patrol Foreman who happens to be in trouble right now for digging. (Texas summer + lots of longhair = a bad boy sometimes).
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tribute to your beloved four legged family members.
ReplyDeleteWe have rescued a number of dogs over the years, Phantom, Jinx, Blondi, Goldie and Bullet. Sadly they have all crossed the Rainbow Bridge with Bullet crossing over in May.
Your Bruster has such a sweet face :)
Bruster is a little cutie and I remember that quilt!! Your creepy bunny.......is CREEPY!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is absolutely adorable and Bruster is a very handsome model :) We have rescued three, all of whom have passed. We now have two, Rubi and Nugget.
ReplyDeleteI am another lover of your quilt. Absolutely brilliant and beautiful! I have had a few pets also. One was a rescue beagle. Her name was Polly and unknown to us she got breast cancer. I didn't realize dogs get cancer if they're not spayed/neutered. Needless to say I had to put her to sleep and I bawled like a baby. We then got another rescue beagle & promptly had her spayed! Many cats here also, bunny, guinea pig also have been ours. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt! Lots of sweet animals named on it. I am participating in the parade too with my sweet Luke and Sabra.
ReplyDeleteEnjoying the parade!
Wow, too many to list so I'll stick with the terrible twins, Brady Bug and Maya Grace, the current rulers of the house. I love that quilt! Creepy Bunny made me laugh, I think I love him too.
ReplyDeleteLove this and Buster is adorable. We have several pets, but just recently lost our Golden, Bubba Jr. He was a special guy :) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine living without at least one pet in our home. In Decenber we sold our farm and all the farm animals....pets, of course. Moved into a new home with two border collies, JudyJingles and Rowdy, and a cat, Tuxedo Tom. Within two weeks, JudyJingles and Tux died. We really miss them...Rowdy is lonely.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was four I asked Santa for a doggy. On Christmas morning I found a big beautiful doll under the tree and burst into tears. "Santa misunderstood me. I wanted a doggy, not a dolly!" Then I heard a yip yip coming from the breezeway. There I found Packy, my best friend for the next 14 years. How wonderful to have a quilt to celebrate all the friends in your life!
ReplyDeleteHi carol!
ReplyDeleteI loved and recently lost my sweet little kitty-cat Gracie.
Thank so much for the giveaway,
Jacqueline in Pitt Meadows
You are a woman after my heart - I too seem to collect the stray and unwanted . They have issues sometimes but don't we all. My latest is Summer , a very shy girl from Puerto Rico who has stolen my heart.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt tribute to all your fur babies
Bruster looks a little unsure about whether he should really be snuggled in that quilt! What a cutie!
ReplyDeleteMy Golden, Trevor, enjoyed a good snuggle too :)
Vof Carol and Bruster! Bruster is beautiful and has most wonderful quilt - it's his, right?! I'm Nero (German-Belgian Shephard, my dear friend Hanna is rescue puppy WHO was thrown to my garden as a little puppy. We have rescued also Nelli, the cat WHO was terrible scared of me (and everyone) but now we are best friends. Mom says thanks for the great give away! Hugs from Nero

We have always had pets that we cherished. Our current pet is a cat named Percy - short for Persistent. He just showed up one day and was very persistent about moving in with us. That was 11 years ago. Thanks!
ReplyDeletePlease click on the delaineelliott above for my email link.
Our golden retriever Sandy was our special pet. She was part of our family for 14 years. I love your quilt! Not only is it fun for adults but kids would absolutely love it too!
ReplyDeleteAwe, I love this quilt. Our Henry cat recently passed away. This is a great idea of remembrance of pets.
ReplyDeleteI have 4 rescued dogs at present (would have more but my husband...). There is Jessie, Dud, Bree, and Baily. Love the quilt!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt, I can see how it would make you smile to look at it. And a wonderful way to remember your pets. We miss our beagle Max, very much. He was a great dog. We have had some wonderful cats too. What joy they bring to us.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt. My favorite pet, long gone, was our cat Hidee. The girls named her Hidee because she always hid from us. :)
ReplyDeleteNow that's the kind of pets I'd like to have... the kind sewn on a quilt. I'm not an animal lover; don't hate them, don't want anything bad to happen to them, just don't want them in my home, think they're great for everyone else who is an animal lover though. The fabric is lovely! dorisquiltingqueen at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to remember your pets! All my kitties have come from shelters. I think it's the only way to adopt pets. I have two cats right now, Lily and a kitten named Molly. They're such fun!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is such a sweet reminder of all the animals you have loved and cared for. I adore your Super Hero label. Of all my and my daughter's pets over the years I must say Sasha,my Abyssinian cat, still steals my heart. She was with me 18 years and I miss her every day. Pets really do give us unconditional love and comfort. Blessings dear for all your rescues...
ReplyDeleteThat's a great quilt! A pet I've loved? That's got to be my daughter's hedgehog Josephine who I've driven to the vet two Saturdays in a row now. Poor darling has mites. And an ear infection. :-(
ReplyDeleteI have always loved that quilt! I remember when you posted it...so cute. My favorite pet has to be my son's dog. He was a Bichon Frise named Ice Cream...fluffy and creamy white. He was Patrick's fifth birthday present :)
ReplyDeleteWe've had lots of dogs at our house. I would have to say that my favorite was Bernie, a warfield red beagle. I just love beagles!
ReplyDeleteWe had Goldie, the goldfish. Then there were all the cats--Jumbo, Fuzzy, Termite, Goldie, Missy, Scooter and now Patches.
ReplyDeleteCute quilt and model.
When I was a very little girl about 2 or 3 I found a white fluffy dog, it was bigger. All the kids in the neighborhood complained and the dog would go home with them and return a few hours later, their parents said they couldn't have him. I named him Rover he was a standard size poodle and something else. He lived until I was 16. He was the best.
ReplyDeleteMy first and so far only pet our family had was a cat name Konnie, short for "contented kitty". We had to put her down in May, and I am still struggling with the concept of her being gone. My husband tells me as soon as we are in our own home he will get me a kitty so I can have a sewing companion. Yay! Thank you for the giveaway!

What a fabulous quilt - Brewster is so lucky!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt! Awesome! We adopted two dogs from a local shelter, but one had to be put down due to liver failure. We have an awesome Australian Shepherd mix who is the best dog! tgnance@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThis was a show stopper during the hop and still is. Bruster is the perfect compliment to it. My rescue dogs are Deogie and Molly.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt and love Bruster! Even though we've always had terriers growing up, the dog that stole my heart and I miss terribly was Ben our Basset. Can't imagine life without a Basset now!
ReplyDeleteI love my rescue dog, KoKo. He's a Toy Pomeranian and is just so sweet. We adopted him in 2008 and he has been training us ever since. Lol. Thank you for the fab giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI loved this quilt when you first showed it. Love your little rescue dog.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really sweet quilt! One of my favorite pets names

In our neighborhood, our house is stray headquarters. They come; they stay a while; then they die, get a home or move on. Leapaul, Lillie, Ama, and Me-new believe friends can come and visit as long as they stay away from their spots on the sofa! LOL
ReplyDeleteI do so love that quilt...what a beautiful memory! I've had many, many pets; though currently we have two...Harpo the cat and Geico the leopard gecko. Maybe next year we will get a small dog to replace our beloved Puddles who had to be put down last December...I sure do love a house full of love!
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved to Arizona we came with 2 dogs. They loved having a huge back yard to run in. One of those -Kali-has since passed and I swear every once in awhile I see her ghost running in the backyard. Now we have 3 dogs again (thanks to my sons) but they are fun to have around...
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is stunning, of course, and Bruster is adorable!
ReplyDeleteMy pet is Sugarplum - the calico cat I rescued two Christmases ago!
