A Quilt For MY Boys Blog Hop

It's MY day For The Boys!

With four Monkey Boys (grandsons) in my life, this hop was just the thing
I needed to give me some ideas on what to make for boys.

I managed to think up a couple ideas that were aimed at guys only...

My hubby loves to watch movies and eat popcorn with the Monkey Boys during their sleepovers.
The movies they watch usually include Looney Tunes or The Three Stooges.
If it's the Three Stooges they're watching, it's a no-brainer that I'll be hearing them all say, "Who's in charge here?" followed by hysterical laughter as they all point
at each other. They think they are so funny!

When I saw some Three Stooges fabric by Robert Kaufman, I knew I had to make them all a
quilt to snuggle under while eating popcorn and watching crazy movies with their Doodah
(what they call my hubby.)

"Be A Stooge"

With a little nudging and pushing from That Other Lady, I managed to finish Mumley...
I was thinking I was too tired from moving to do one more thing. She knew just what to say to
get me thinking otherwise. Monkey Boy #3 will be a happy boy when he gets this quilt!

"Mumley"

I'll be delivering all these monsters to my Monkey Boys this weekend!

Look who else is For The Boys today:

Here's a little GIVEAWAY for this hop...a package I bought at my
favorite quilt store, Quilted Works.
It's a pattern and fabric for a pillowcase...for a boy, of course!

Bella, The Rescue Dog AND For The Boys

My sweet Bella ran into my sewing room yesterday and went straight to the corner where
I've stacked some of my fabric buckets (no, I haven't finished unpacking, yet.) She had no clue
how dangerous that corner is because things are precariously balanced over there just waiting
for me to get creative with their contents!

It wasn't that Bella wanted to be close to me while I was sewing for the next blog hop...there was a
fly in the house and she was scared of it. She's scared of everything and sometimes there's a few
lights out in her little chandelier. We love her anyway!

Bella's a rescue dog from an eviction and spent over six weeks in a shelter waiting for her owners to
come get her. They never did. It was obvious she'd recently had puppies, but they weren't with her.
She cowered when I went to pet her, which was a big indicator she was abused by her previous
owners (she still cowers even though she gets nothing but love from us.) The shelter I got her from
wasn't one of those that keeps abandoned pets forever...if you know what I mean. Her time was very
short. We were lucky to get her and she's been a great addition to our family for the last couple years.

My soapbox is in a box somewhere or I'd be jumping on it right now to rant a little about spaying
your pets and being responsible pet owners. Dang...I miss my soap box (and all those other things
waiting to be unpacked.)

Bella's a girl dog, so the next blog hop coming up really isn't her thing...
IT'S FOR THE BOYS!

Amy at Sew Incredibly Crazy will be cheering us on for this one and it looks like
there's lots of  amazing quilters who will be showing us their stuff.

Wickedly Wicked and Creepy Me

Today's my day to show you my
  WICKED and Creepy Carol side...

Thanks to Madame Samm and Wicked Wendy for this wicked week of hopping. I do think Wendy showed her really, really wicked side by putting me on the last day of this hop with her. Have you seen all those other amazing ladies showing their Wicked projects today? Wow! Plus, there's That Other Lady posting today who is SO, SO, SO competitive...but of course, I'm not the least bit competitive!

Thursday, October 31st

I saw this online while searching for some ideas and managed to get it made before my sewing machine was packed away. I can't find the pattern to tell you who made it, but I can tell you it is in a box somewhere and I'm sure I'll find it by next Halloween.

Linda from Buzzing and Bumbling made a really amazing quilt during last year's Wicked. I got a quilt kit from her and decided that was going to be my project for this hop. I totally screwed it up! I cut the fabric the wrong sizes and no matter how I tried to fix it, the damage was done. I really loved her pattern so I substituted some other fabric I had in my stash. You can get her wonderful quilt pattern HERE.

Once we were moved, my sewing machine and fabric were the first things to be unpacked...and my toothbrush, of course...so I started in on a few more projects.

My Monkey Boys had their own ideas for my Just Call Me "Frankie" quilt and how I should make it unique for them. Using a combination of The Lion Quilt and Just Call Me Frankie, these are what they designed:

"Draco"
(Really, I ironed him, but the trip to the park got him all puckered up.
Maybe he was just a little short on blood or something.)

"Sand Wolf"
(My werewolf HAS TO be gray, Grandma!...said Monkey Boy #2)

 "Mumley"
The Mummy is not quite finished (sorry) but it will be soon. I started to make this in all white,
but then I realized it would be used by a four-year-old so it wouldn't stay white for long.

I Landed Somewhere!

I had to endure over a week without my sewing machine...it was awful!
I had to go THREE WHOLE DAYS without the internet...it was so painful!
I had to eat out a lot...okay, so that wasn't so bad.

Now I can't find anything, but my sewing machine is set up
and I managed to sew a few things today. Whoohoo!

I fixed a homemade dinner for the first time in a while using a recipe I'd seen circulating around on Facebook and places around the internet. They call it Mississippi Roast for reasons unknown to me. Maybe it's something commonly made in Mississippi? It has lots of butter, but you can use less or none at all.

MISSISSIPPI ROAST
3 to 5 pound chuck roast
1 package Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing mix
1 package dry Au Jus mix
1 stick of butter (you can use less or none at all)
5 whole pepperoncini peppers
Place roast in Crock Pot and sprinkle with dry packages of Ranch dressing and Au Jus Mix. Top with one stick butter (it can be made with no butter or a little less than one stick) and 5 whole pepperoncini peppers. DO NOT ADD WATER! Cook for 8 hours on low. Shred or slice roast and serve with gravy and potatoes or rice, if desired. It is very, very tender with just a little kick to it...yummy!
