Riley Blake Designs "Gnome For Christmas" Project Tour

Riley Blake Designs new flannel fabric line, "Gnome for Christmas" by Tara Reed, has just the cutest designs that include, of course, gnomes! I thought it would be fun to add some appliqued gnomes in a 54" x 70" quilt called, "Waiting for Santa."

There weren't any reindeer hanging out where I live, so a few Bighorn Sheep offered to be stand-ins.

"Waiting for Santa" used 2 ¼ yards RBD Main Green Gnomes, 1 yard RBD Red Stripes, 1 yard RBD Red Snowflakes, 1 ½ yard RBD Confetti Cotton Riley White, and 1 yard RBD Confetti Cotton Holly. Miscellaneous fabrics were used for the gnome appliques.

Mixing cottons with flannel is totally possible! I used Riley Blake Designs Confetti Cottons to go with the "Gnome for Christmas" flannel.

Yes, that's a ruffle you see. The "Gnome for Christmas" Red Stripes were perfect for the ruffle and binding. The flannel almost looks like velvet...it's so soft. Those gnomes are just the cutest!

The RBD Red Snowflakes are really beautiful.

The double napped flannel is by Tara Reed for Riley Blake Designs and is great for apparel, blankets, quilts and quilt backs.

The prints feature scattered gnomes, presents, and holly on a textured background.

You can find "Waiting for Santa" in a PDF downloadable pattern HERE.

Applique is a breeze when using Heat n Bond Lite EZ Print Sheets*. I copy the designs by running the sheets through my inkjet printer...no tracing! Plus, the backing peels off without having to score it with a pin. I love that! *Affiliate link

The winter months near Las Vegas look like this.
Santa still visits even without snow!

As always, I'm grateful for my "crew" and his help holding quilts. I'm not sure this "reindeer" was thrilled with the bull fighting stance of the "crew." Looks like he's waving the quilt for a challenge.

Thankfully, no serious injuries happened on this adventure.

I'm so glad you stopped by for a little gnome fun!

Riley Blake Designs Lumberjack Aaron Flannel

There's nothing sweeter than wrapping up in a flannel quilt in the winter to keep us toasty and
warm. Riley Blake Design's "Lumberjack Aaron" flannel and Designer Flannels are perfect
to snuggle in! They are 100% cotton and are great for quilts, apparel, or home decor.
It’s such a sweet fabric line by Stacy West of Buttermilk Basin Design Co.

Other fabrics used:

Riley Blake Designs Cotton Kisses-Redwood
Riley Blake Designs Cotton Putty
Confetti Cotton - light brown, dark brown, black, gray, cranberry

Look at some of the other designs in the Lumberjack Aaron line!

The applique was simple with a cabin, trees, and logger truck in cottons and flannel.

RBD Redwood "Kisses" is one of my favorite cotton basics!
I found some RBD Brown Buffalo check flannel in my stash, so I added it to the back.
The whole quilt is definitely ready to snuggle in.

The trucks full of cut lumber, saws, cabin, and Lumberjack Aaron are just too cute!

Crisscross straight stitching made it a quick finish!

Free motion quilting around the applique makes it stand out (I think so, anyway!)

Elephants In The Riley Blake Designs Designer Flannels Blog Tour

I can't think of anything more cozy and sweet than to snuggle up in a warm flannel blanket,
especially when it is as soft and beautiful as Riley Blake Designs designer flannels.
It's definitely a perfect cuddle fabric to use in a quilt or pajamas!

Elmer and Ema are little quilts for any toddler as they measure 26" x 36"
without counting the ears or paws. Just right for dragging around!

Ema

I used two different flannel fabrics for Elmer and Ema:
Flannel Jungle Animals in blue and Flannel Kisses in orange.

Confetti Cottons are always a great addition to any quilt, including this one.
The eyes, ears, trunks, and paws are all made with Confetti Cottons.

Elmer has red suspenders with big buttons

Ema has a flower on her top...

...and a little ruffled skirt

Elmer and Ema are so easy to make!
You can find the patterns for both of them in my Etsy store HERE.

RBD Flannel Exhibition Blog Tour...My Day!

Riley Blake Designs has come out with some of the most gorgeous flannel and what
better way to show it off than to have a Flannel Exhibition Blog Tour.
You're going to love all the designs they have available!

My mom made nightgowns for all her daughters and granddaughters almost every Christmas.
They were amazing and loved by all of us! There was ribbing at the wrist and a zipper front.
I wish my mom had some of the beautiful flannels by Riley Blake to sew with...
she would have gone nuts over the quality and designs!

My nightgown isn't at all like my mom's, but this one is better suited for the hot weather around here.

I chose the Girl Crazy floral blue flannel...

...and the Girl Crazy dots blue flannel for my nightgown.

It has an underskirt lining and the polka dot flannel makes a great accent as ruffles.

My mom also made heavy-duty quilted fabric bathrobes for all of us and we'd wear them until they
were tattered and worn. I went for a simpler robe by creating one in the form of a hooded cape
using a basic design that I found at Simon and Company (her cape has a collar, mine has a hood).
Her directions are perfect, easy to understand, so there's no need for me to be reinventing the pattern.

It kind of has a Little Red Riding Hood look to it, only in blue.

I made my cape 20" long, but followed the directions about measuring and folding fabric in quarters.
I cut one piece of the fabric, one piece for lining, and one piece of batting (to make it cozy and warm.)

I cut down 2.5" for the neckline just like Simon and Company instructed.

I made a shape like this for the hood (real scientific pattern, isn't it!)
I added a little tab and used Velcro for the closure...the button was just for looks.

My cape was going to be made of flannel, which I thought I ordered from Lady Luck Fabrics,
but when my package arrived in the mail it had the luscious Girl Crazy design in regular fabric.
Whoops!
I was actually excited about my error, because  it is so cool that this fabric comes in both
flannel and cotton! I added some RBD yellow gingham for the lining, some polka dot flannel
to keep it soft around the face, and then quilted it with straight lines to keep it all together.

I used this pattern to create my nightgown (it's really a dress,) but changed it up a bit, of course!
I added six inches to lengthen it and folded the ruffle over so I wouldn't have to narrow hem it.

Thanks, Riley Blake Designs, for creating such amazing and beautiful flannel!

I sew a lot slower these days, but it is really a nice change. There were times I was whipping out 7-9 projects a month. Way too much! Now ...
