Riley Blake Designs "Gnome For Christmas" Project Tour

Riley Blake Designs new flannel fabric line, "Gnome for Christmas" by Tara Reed, has just the cutest designs that include, of course, gnomes! I thought it would be fun to add some appliqued gnomes in a 54" x 70" quilt called, "Waiting for Santa."

There weren't any reindeer hanging out where I live, so a few Bighorn Sheep offered to be stand-ins.

"Waiting for Santa" used 2 ¼ yards RBD Main Green Gnomes, 1 yard RBD Red Stripes, 1 yard RBD Red Snowflakes, 1 ½ yard RBD Confetti Cotton Riley White, and 1 yard RBD Confetti Cotton Holly. Miscellaneous fabrics were used for the gnome appliques.

Mixing cottons with flannel is totally possible! I used Riley Blake Designs Confetti Cottons to go with the "Gnome for Christmas" flannel.

Yes, that's a ruffle you see. The "Gnome for Christmas" Red Stripes were perfect for the ruffle and binding. The flannel almost looks like's so soft. Those gnomes are just the cutest!

The RBD Red Snowflakes are really beautiful.

The double napped flannel is by Tara Reed for Riley Blake Designs and is great for apparel, blankets, quilts and quilt backs.

The prints feature scattered gnomes, presents, and holly on a textured background.

You can find "Waiting for Santa" in a PDF downloadable pattern HERE.

Applique is a breeze when using Heat n Bond Lite EZ Print Sheets*. I copy the designs by running the sheets through my inkjet tracing! Plus, the backing peels off without having to score it with a pin. I love that! *Affiliate link

The winter months near Las Vegas look like this.
Santa still visits even without snow!

As always, I'm grateful for my "crew" and his help holding quilts. I'm not sure this "reindeer" was thrilled with the bull fighting stance of the "crew." Looks like he's waving the quilt for a challenge.

Thankfully, no serious injuries happened on this adventure.

I'm so glad you stopped by for a little gnome fun!

  1. That is sooooo darling! And that was very sweet of you to offer the free pattern. The fabric was cute but your applique and ruffle just sent it over the top!

  2. Awesome, as usual, Carol! I don't know how you think of sew many creative designs. That fabric looks wonderful too, but those gnomes peeking over the "wall" are really cute, and the ruffle adds to the whole design.

  3. This is just so cute, Carol. I would have never thought of mixing flannel and cotton, but it works beautifully! Love the ruffle addition too! Thanks for sharing the pattern!

  4. Christmas in April? Now that's early, lol! I just love your photo shoots. Such a cheerful gnomey quilt.

  5. That is so adorable. A new Christmas pattern in April gives me a fighting chance to get it done. :)Thank you for your generosity.

  6. I just LOVE what you did with my Gnome for Christmas flannels! As an artist and fabric designer seeing the creativity of others that comes after my own never gets old - thanks for sharing!

  7. This will make the perfect Christmas present for my daughter-in-law! But as I’m studying the directions, I don’t see where you attach the confetti green stripe at the top. I’m assuming you do it just before assembling the applique gnomes. Correct?
