A Little Rain, Stitching, Sewing, And Eating

After being away from home for a couple weeks, its been hard to get back into any sort of routine.
Although, I do find being retired means there isn't much of a routine, which is weird to get used to.

We had a huge thunderstorm with hail and really dark clouds yesterday.
I love how fresh and red things get around here when the rain comes!

I'm so slow at cross stitching, but I started this piece using a method I saw on a DMC video HERE.
It's a half cross stitch so it takes half the time...my kind of stitching!
It doesn't have quite the beauty of a full cross stitch, but I wanted to try it. I like it so far, especially
because this is kind of a big project (for me) and I'm not sure I'd finish it if it was a full cross stitch.

I've also been doing some embroidery and applique using the Have A Latte fabric by Clothworks.

There's also this ruffle just waiting to be added to a project. I do love ruffles!

I made a salad (with a few changes from the original recipe) that even got the approval of the hubby.
It was so yummy!
(The original version is HERE at Creme de la Crumb.)

Salad Ingredients:
 12 ounces bowtie pasta, cooked
6 cups spinach leaves, washed
1 cup Craisins
1 cup pine nuts, chopped cashews, or sliced almonds
2 4-ounce cans mandarin oranges, drained

Dressing:
1 cup teriyaki sauce (I used Yoshida, but you can use your favorite brand)
1 cup rice vinegar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons sugar
1 cup vegetable or canola oil

Mix the dressing ingredients and refrigerate until ready to serve the salad.
Cook the pasta and cool. Add to the rest of salad ingredients.
Toss them all together with a little or a lot of the dressing and serve.

I had the hubby barbecue some chicken that I'd marinated in terikyaki sauce to go with this.
It was delicious!

Me Here, Monkeys There

I had no idea these scary looking clouds would stop me from seeing my sweet Monkey Boys,
but they did!
They poured down some torrential rain which then caused major flash flooding in two states.
Add a washed-out freeway that is the main road connecting one state to another and what do you get?
An almost impossible journey from where I am to where the Monkey Boys live.
- Insert my very sad face here! -

The sky on Monday...beautiful, but not very nice!

The road that takes me to the Monkey Boys...gone!

They're estimating it will be several days before the road is open again with just one lane each way.
There's an alternate route, but it adds a considerable amount of time and slow traffic to the trip.
There were also many homes washed out in this area causing horrible damage.
No Monkeys for me, but I'm lucky I still have a home.

What's with this crazy weather!

In the midst of yucky, we still have a blog hop going on with so much inspiration and tons of reasons
to smile and find a little happiness. WAIT...does that sound too much like Pollyanna talking? Sorry!
I'm DEFINITELY NOT a Pollyanna, but here's some places to visit and just have a happy moment.

Just A Little Late With The Valentine Quilt

Okay, so I'm A LOT late for Valentine's Day...like over two years late!

I started this ruffly Valentine's quilt in 2012.

A friend quilted it with lovely hearts. I loved it!
All it needed was binding, but for unknown reasons it disappeared into a box for over two years.
(There's several more in that box that ONLY need binding...I'm slowly making my way through them.)
The problem with waiting that long is that the matching fabric to make the binding had disappeared.
Luckily, I was able to use some Riley Blake black polka dot for the binding. Whew!

Let the binding begin...OR NOT.

I had to stop in the middle of sewing the binding on because we got hit with a huge thunderstorm.
It just poured buckets of rain and the thunder went on forever!

A little flash flooding went on, too, thanks to almost an inch of rain in a really short time.

A couple hours later the binding was on and I was off to take pics with the hubby.
Luckily, there was very little rain and the lightening was off in the distance.

The back was fun to make, too.

I love this fabric!

I'm all done with my See You In September projects (my day is September 9th)
and I can't wait to see what everyone else has been busy creating all summer.

Then there's the Rush Hour Blog Hop...I'm so excited to host this one!
Then...oh boy...Black Cat Crossing!

Floods, Rain, AND a Fabric Sale!

Enough already with the crazy weather!

My husband took a picture of me running out in this crazy weather to take a picture
(yes, I was barefoot.) He sent it to my sister and me with this message: "It's what bloggers do."
Yes, we are crazy about our picture taking, aren't we!
NO, I'm not sharing that pic...I was soaking wet and my hair was plastered to my head.

Through the window...the winds were so bad! That tall plant in
the middle of the pic was almost horizontal during the worst part of the storm.

We had a small pond out front and a river running down our street.

Rainbows are a nice touch after a storm with torrential rains and well over 60 mile an hour winds.

There were at least 10 of these trees that couldn't hold up against the winds.

Red mud is not so pretty when it looks like this.

This is about an hour after the storm...the water reached almost 10 feet at this underpass during
the peak of the storm. It wiped out a section of the golf course, too!

My sister had a similar red river tumbling behind her house...the same river that flooded two homes up
the hill from her. It was amazing to see how quickly the neighbors jumped in to help those people. The fire
department and clean-up crews arrived SO FAST, too! Lots of heroes helping out!

On a lighter note, I had been looking for a certain fabric for my
Ho Ho Ho blog hop project and found it online at Rossville Quilts.
Their service was amazing...quick and efficient!
They are having a huge sale this month...check it out HERE.

Don't forget the HO HO HO BLOG HOP!
It starts in just 10 days...I'm so excited!

Jeepers Creepers Is It Halloween Yet?

I sew a lot slower these days, but it is really a nice change. There were times I was whipping out 7-9 projects a month. Way too much! Now ...
