Virtual Christmas Cookie Exchange 2023

The Virtual Christmas Cookie Exchange is my favorite blog hop of the year.
Okay, I really love them all, but this one is a tradition on my blog.
It started in 2013 and I missed only one year for reasons I don't remember.

The challenge was to share any of the items listed below:

Christmas recipe (cookies or something else food related)
A favorite Christmas memory
Christmas quilt/project or gift idea

My project is a remake of a different quilt pattern from a few years ago.
I made this one a little bigger and changed the fabrics.

A TOUCH OF CHRISTMAS
65" X 65"

Fabrics are Benartex's "Peace On Earth" by Amanda Murphy

This year my recipe/baking adventure was done a gazillion miles away in Ohio without me.
It seems that far anyway, now that the Monkey Boys and Monkey Girl moved there.
Thank you to my beautiful daughter and Monkey Boy #4 for helping me out!

CHOCOLATE MARSHMALLOW COOKIES

Makes 24 cookies

One Devil’s Food cake mix (I used Duncan Hines)
2 eggs
1/2 cup oil (canola or vegetable oil)
12 large marshmallows
1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
5 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup milk

INSTRUCTIONS:

Combine cake mix, eggs, and oil in bowl and mix well.

Scoop tablespoon sized dough balls onto a baking sheet that has been sprayed with cooking
spray or lined with parchment paper, then roll the dough in your hands to make smoother balls.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 9 minutes.

While the cookies are baking, cut each marshmallow in half with cooking shears.
You can spray the shears with cooking spray so the marshmallows don’t stick.
When the cookies are done, place a marshmallow half, cut side down, on each cookie
and bake in the oven for another 2 minutes.

Remove cookies from the oven and lightly flatten each marshmallow down.

While the cookies cool, make the frosting. Melt the butter and mix in the cocoa powder and
vanilla. Add the powdered sugar and milk and mix with a hand mixer or stand mixer
on high for a few minutes until smooth.

Frost the cookies with a piping bag or spread the frosting over the cookies with a knife
or spatula to cover the marshmallows completely.

Examine what they look after taking a bite.

Enjoy the rest of the cookie!

Please take a peek at all the other wonderful sweets, treats, quilts, bags, and
gift ideas. Comments are always appreciated!

Riley Blake Designs Make It Modern Project Tour

Picking out fabrics for my "Wreath of Joy" Christmas quilt was easy once I saw Riley Blake Designs "Painter's Watercolor Swirl" by J. Wecker Frisch. All the amazing colors totally rang my bell!

50" x 50"

Fabric used in quilt is Riley Blake Designs Painters Watercolor Swirl:
Medium Green, Aged White, Dark Red, Gold, Charcoal

Painter's Watercolor Swirl in Dark Red is my favorite!

The Gold is so bright and perfect for this!

Riley Blake Designs blog has so many great and inspiring projects you can make.
Check it out HERE!

Appliqueing the "wreath" was simple thanks to my favorite iron-on adhesive,
The backing paper peels off so easy with no scoring of the paper.

A Christmas Gnome And His Dog

When Paintbrush Studios (PBS) offered some of it's fabric to the ThermOWeb designers, I was really excited about the beautiful designs they had to choose from. As a dog lover, I went for the "Happy Howlidays" by Richelle Lynn Garn. It came in a full yard panel of four fat quarters.

Because it is a celebration of gnomes this week at ThermOWeb, I thought I'd combine a gnome with this adorable puppy fabric.

Santa has a tight grip on his puppy...must be a wild one!

There are a lot of adorable puppies in the fabric along with other fun items and sayings. If you look close, you can see some dog bones and Christmas accents.

Adding the applique was so easy thanks to ThermOWeb's Heat n Bond Lite Iron-on Adhesive. The backing easily peels of when you're ready to place it on your fabric.

For stability when sewing small pieces on applique, iron Heat n Bond Light Weight Non-Woven Interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric that will be behind your applique.

There are several stitches you can use to hold down your applique. I like to use the blanket stitch.

I never use pins to baste my quilt together because I love the way Spray n Bond Basting Adhesive holds my layers together. Heat n Bond High Loft Fleece makes a nice and light layer to table mats like "Santa and His Dog."

ThermOWeb has a lot of products that make sewing and quilting so much easier. They also have a blog with some amazing designers of fabric and paper. You should check it out!

Is it Christmas yet?

You can find the pattern HERE.

Take A Ride To Santa Claus Lane In Riley Blake Designs Blog Tour

It's always a toss up which I love the most, Christmas or Halloween, and it usually comes down to loving them both about the same. Riley Blake Designs never disappoints with fabric designs from both holidays, including the new "Santa Claus Lane" by Melissa Mortenson of Polka Dot Chair. It's 100 percent cotton and great for quilting, apparel and home decor.

It even has the cutest Christmas stocking panel with applique Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus!

Santa is such a good guy for taking his sweet wife on a date!

Rudolph is a wonderful escort for date night with Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

Candy canes, flowers, and strings of lights...so fun!

Riley Blake Designs Confetti Cottons blend perfectly with "Santa Claus Lane" fabric.

There's Santa...love the mint color!

The wind was totally out of control during picture taking, but it did show off the back where it was pieced with leftover "Santa Claus Lane" fabric.

How sweet is that striped fabric! It is just the cutest and is perfect next to those candy canes.

"Santa Claus Lane" is a great combo of fabric for any Christmas project!

Fly me to the moon, Santa!

"Midnight Ride With Mrs. Claus" is a free pattern this week...you can find it HERE
