Time In A Bottle Blog Hop And My Day Too

It has been an exciting week full of hourglasses of all types and colors in the "Time in a Bottle" blog hop...so fun! Who would have thought there could be so many ideas for hourglass blocks!

I don't usually have a project in mind when I post a challenge for my blog hops and this time I really had no clue what I was going to make. Until I saw Benartex's "Ale House" by Kanvas Studio and then my brain went into overdrive (it does that sometimes.)

"Time in a Bottle"

The quilt is 76" tall, so you know this rabbit is big!
He can be found at Bootleg Canyon in Boulder City, Nevada, along with other desert critters.

Making 12 hourglasses met the blog hop challenge for sure!

Here are instructions for making your own 7" finished hourglass block:

I love the combo of peanuts, pretzels and ale in the Dresden blocks.

These are the Benartex "Ale House" fabrics in my quilt. The colors are very vibrant!
I'm thinking any of these would be perfect for a soup bowl cozy.

This guy would be scary to run into if he was real!

The area in and around Las Vegas has lots of these yucky scorpions that sometimes venture into

houses. One of the Monkey Boys was unlucky enough to get bit by one in his living room.

The sun wasn't very helpful with this photo, but you can see how big that scorpion
is compared to the quilt. Yikes! Luckily, we didn't run into any real ones out there.

My crew guy was very brave helping me out!

As ugly as roadrunners can be, they are so fascinating to watch. They run through
the deserts, neighborhoods, and golf courses looking for their meals.

Here are the other "Time in A Bottle" hourglass stichers...check them out!

I hope you've enjoyed this week's "Time in a Bottle" blog hop. I have!
There are so many ways to use this easy and fun block.

  2. What fun fabrics and your quilt is beautiful Carol! I wouldn't have thought to make a quilt like that with those fabrics, but I love it. Those desert critters are huge. We too have lots of rabbits, and roadrunners (our state bird) and in all the years we have lived here, I only saw a couple tiny scorpions. I always love your photo location shoots.

  3. Wow Carol, this is a beautiful quilt, and those are some pretty scary creatures. The alehouse fabrics would have intimidated me as far as seeing a setting for them, but the black background allows drama without allowing the busyness of the prints to dominate. Also I am loving the combo of movement within the dresden plate or wedge blocks and the controlled structure of the hourglasses. I guess you can tell I really like this. Thanks

  6. A terrific interpretation of your theme. I love how colorful and fun all those fabrics are cut into bits and pieces and then blended together. And they just pop on the black background. You three are really creative with your blog hop themes.

  20. Thank goodness that scorpion wasn't real. Yikes; can you imagine running into one that big? Sure helped having something to remind us of how big your quilt was. The hourglass blocks are perfect especially paired with the dresden plates. BTW, the fabric was perfect - and new to me. Thank you for another super hop. I didn't visit everyone this time. Somehow time and events got in the way. Keep the hops coming.

  21. Love your quilt! Love Boulder City too!! I was born there and can say it didn't have any huge animals like these. Only got to see and play with the real sized ones, ha ha. We caught scorpions, horned toads, desert tortoises plus all kinds of other desert critters. Sorry to say we moved to California when I was in the 3rd grade in the 50s.

Thanks for sharing the quilt and the desert pics.
