It's A Block Party With Crafter's Edge Strips

Crafter's Edge has a new fabric die set, 1" and 1 1/2" strips, that make it even more fun to get creative with a sewing project. The possibilities are endless! Cut long strips or short strips...the choice is yours.

"It's A Block Party!" used the strips for a 1" border around the four square blocks and for a border around the inner quilt. The die cutter was also used to cut the strips for the outside border.

It's A Block Party!

It's so easy to cut the long strips by folding your fabric into 5-6 layers. Lay the fabric dies so that the ends overlap the fold on the fabric. Cover with the protective plastic layer and roll through the machine.

The cut 1 1/2" strips make it easy to add a nice and even 1" border.

You can even cut several sizes at a time.

You end up with perfectly cut strips...no zigs, zags or wonkiness.

Another way to cut perfect sized strips is to cut your fabric the width of the strip you'll need. This strip was five layers of 6" wide fabric. Lay the cutter across the width with the edges overhanging. Run through the cutter. You'll end up with perfect 1" x 6" or 1 1/2" x 6 strips.

Cutting them that way made it easy to border the four square blocks and make the 2 1/2" x 7 1/2" strip border!

You can even get 2 1/2" cutters that are perfect for cutting binding or borders, too!

The stripes make a sweet border for this and it was so easy to cut with the 2 1/2" die cutter!

  1. I love your brightly colored quilt! That is a fun outside border design. Of course that is my favorite striped binding! I like the idea of the die cutting for the strips that fall within the length of the die. Cutting long strips though with the die would take me forever to fold the fabric so that the folds wouldn’t get cut. It’s a great idea for those who have trouble with a ruler and rotary cutter.

  3. Cute quilt! The 4 patches set in the black sashing really sets them off. I like the way you did the borders too.

  5. What a great quilt. Really lets the colors speak for themselves. The soccer balls on the back are great. That Crafter's Edge is a nice machine but I just don't have the room for something like that with all those dies. :(
