Your Stories Really Touched My Heart

Here's me in one of the few pics I have of something I sewed in the olden days.
I think Frank liked it! It was one of the popular a-line dresses of that time period.
Navy and green cotton fabric, simple, but seriously a great style of dress!

Reading all the stories in the Quilt Qwazy Queens Blog Hop really touched my heart.
Then there were the comments on my blog post about all the ways people learned to sew.
I was totally blown away by all of the stories...thank you everyone!
I read ALL of them and might have got a little teary-eyed a couple times!

I think we are all grateful for the mom, grandma, and/or friends who taught us to sew.
Those of you who have been self-taught deserve a star on your forehead!
I've taught myself a few sewing things, so I know how hard it can be sometimes.

Here's to many more years of learning new and exciting quilting things!

Only a couple more days on this fantastic Therm O Web giveaway!

  1. Love the colors of the dress and that style is making a comeback. Each person who loves to sew was touched by someone who told them they could even the self taught people.

  2. Do you still have that dress? I think I agree with Charlene it is making a comeback, and the colors are great. So often anymore we have fewer and fewer women who teach their daughters because they were not taught. Hearing about the ones that took the time is precious.

  4. I had one of those too. One of the only flattering styles for me.

  5. Oh! I loved that dress! It was simple to make and it was so nice to wear. I have always enjoyed sewing by machine and by hand. There is so much pleasure in cutting up fabric and sewing it back together. All of my sisters could sew, but for some reason, my daughter just didn't like it-won't even sew on a button. It is surprising after being surrounded by so many seamtresses in the family.

  6. That is such a fun photo and i do love that dress. I think it is time I learned to sew again, I am so tired of trying to find dresses and skirts that are not off the wall with colors and patterns.

  7. OMG! I had several of those dresses, which I made. They were so comfortble. Are they coming back in style? I hope so.

  10. Reading how everyone got started is rather nostalgic thinking back to how I got started. My mom taught me. I can remember crocheting when I was 9...we went on to sewing clothing, then quilting. She is gone now but she sure did instill her love of crafting in us 3 sisters...
