Riley Blake Designs Back In The Saddle Blog Tour

The moment I saw the panels from the "Back in the Saddle" fabric line, I was in love!

They were gorgeous in colors and designs. I couldn't wait to put my favorite panel into a quilt

for the Riley Blake Designs Blog Tour. I was totally drawn to the horse running in water!

Free To Be Wild

Finished size is 54" x 60"

Fabric cutting instructions:

Cut 1 – Panel 36½” x 42½”

Cut 4 – 3½” x 42½” black strips, Border A

Cut 30 – 3½” x 6½” gray rectangles, Border B

Make 30 – 3½” x 6½” black and gray flying geese, Border B

Cut 4 – 6½” x 6½” black squares, Border B corners

Cut 6 – 2½” x 43” strips, Binding

Cut 1 – Backing to fit 54” x 60” quilt front (allow extra if needed for quilting)

"Free To Be Wild" has a border of 3" x 6" flying geese and rectangles which were

made using the Accuquilt dies and cutting machine. I love how easy the flying geese

were to put together! The rectangle die made it super fast, too.

"Back in the Saddle by Penny Rose Studio has several beautiful panel prints.

This print features a horse running through water.

This print features a mother horse and her colt. Panel size is 36" x 43".

This print features a horses running in a field with lightning in the background.

Panel size is 36" x 43".

This print features horses running through a river. Panel size is 36" x 43".

This pillow panel features smaller scaled versions of the panels in the collection.

Panel size is 36" x 43".

I think this horse is just so beautiful.

The large size of this quilt will make it perfect for any horse lover.

Spot's Day For The 30 Quilt Blocks In 30 Days Blog Hop

Carla from Creatin' in the Sticks came up with a very cool idea for sewing simple blocks

to make quick quilts. Then she asked a bunch of us to get creative with those simple blocks and

organized us into the 30 Quilt Blocks in 30 Days blog hop. Great idea...thanks, Carla!

I chose block number 21, SPOT, for today's project.

I immediately thought of the books from my days as a kid in school.

I always liked Spot!

Making the Spot block was so easy!

These are the measurements for the Spot 10" finished block:

I added a circle in the center, borders, and some dogs using an Accuquilt die that I've had

forever. Of course, I named the quilt, "Spot." The fabrics are by Riley Blake Designs.

The photos were taken in a St. George, Utah, park. I love the dragon!

This little girl and her dogs seemed like an appropriate photo prop!

I love my "crew" who is always there to lend a hand.
It was too cold for him to run through the water at the splash pad.

Quilted Works used a dog design for the quilting...see the little paws!

My Black Cat's Crossing Today

Spooktacular Madame Samm is frighteningly good at coming up with amazing blog hops

I have three sisters and when the four of us girls were all together under one roof

we could get a little..uh...witchy at times. Of course, I was the least witchiest of

all the sisters and usually ended up being a victim of one of their spells.

The Witchiest Witches

Denise, Linda, Susan, and that's poor little ole' me as a cat under one of their nasty spells!

This wall hanging (33" x 40 1/2 ") was created using Maywood Studios Black Cat Crossing fabric.
The top stitching thread around those wicked witches was King Tut thread by Superior Threads.

The Bonnet Girls Apple Butter design was the inspiration for my witches. I love the Bonnet Girls!

With several triangles leftover after getting a little over zealous with my AccuQuilt Cutter,

I put them to use with this table runner. Adding a ruffle just seemed like the right thing to do!

Whooooo loves a purple ruffle? Me!

Years ago I started gathering together the Garden Patch Cats patterns by Helene Knott and decided

they'd make a fun quilt if I dressed them all up in costumes. I had fun creating costumes by adding a

mask or two, drippy purple heart-shaped blood, and Glitter threads from Superior Threads,

but then I had an "uh-oh" moment when I realized...

Oh, my gosh! I have to sew around ALL those applique pieces!

The "uh-oh" moments didn't end there...

I got even more wickedly caught up in the fun when I decided to hand quilt around all those freshly

sewn applique pieces using crochet thread and big stitches. Yikes...I don't know what came over me!

I hadn't hand quilted anything in over 20 years so don't look close!

It was probably my sister's casting a spell on me to make me temporarily crazy...

I hope it isn't permanent, but then how will I know! I'm always a little crazy!

Creepy Cats

The blocks were 15" x 15" and I made use of that amazing Maywood fabric.
It's got a lot of sparkly Glitter thread, but it's tough to catch it in a photo.

Then there was the Ghastlie fabric sitting there in the corner waiting for me to use it.
