Of Course I'll Drop Everything For You....

....I said to my five year old grandson (who's almost six) a few days ago.  He'd asked me to sew him a volleyball quilt a long time ago, but I'd never got around to it. But, when those big brown eyes looked at me the other day and said he'd "been waiting since I was four" to get his volleyball quilt, of course I went right to work on it.

I had some blocks already sewn up from the last volleyball quilt I made, so I handed them to him and told him to design his own quilt. He loved that the blocks stuck to my wall and had a great time moving them around.

This little monkey has a tendency to get distracted and bounced out of the room more than he was in, but he got all the pieces on the wall and was really proud of himself.

It's finished and ready for him to be wrapped up in and snuggled by all of us who love him so much.

Now, it's back to what consumes
most of my free time...
and I love it!

A Monkey Quilt

I have three grandsons (my Monkey Boys) who are the usual recipients of a lot of my quilted projects just because they are so forgiving of my quilty mistakes. The two oldest monkeys recently told me that the youngest monkey doesn't have as many quilts/blankets as they do and that I needed to make him more. So.......I decided to practice on some applique projects and make Monkey Baby a new blanket (he'll be called Monkey Boy #3 when the new monkey #4 arrives in November.) Among all the mistakes, there are a few spots that were actually (probably) sewn correctly on the little monkey that will eventually be a finished quilt. Next time I'll do better and use different color threads, different stitches, etc., etc., etc.

My Dots On Dots Day and Giveaway

It's time for another fun blog hop to inspire, motivate, and encourage us all.

Let the DOTS begin!

I loved those chevron fabrics by Riley Blake the moment I saw them and then....
...Whoohoo.....I won a fat quarter pack of them!
They paired up perfectly with some dots for this paper-pieced block.

Which I made into a pillow and added a button.

I had all the other colors of chevrons left over, so I used
them to make blocks of stripes and polka dots,

and paper pieced flower blocks,

plus a pretty dress,

and put them all together to make a little girl's quilt.
It just needs some finishing and then it will be ready
for some sweet girl to wrap up in.

I loved appliqueing and sewing that little dress so much, I made another one,

added an "E" for Ellie (a really cute little girl I know)

and created a doll blanket (using the last of my chevrons for the back.

Fuzzy dots count, right? I'm sure they do, but if not, don't tell the dot police that I'm using them in this hop.
Shhhhh....it's our secret.
These paper pieced blocks of fuzzy dots (Truffula Trees) surround none other than.....
The Lorax!
I found this paper piecing pattern at Fandom In Stitches
and added a little minky fabric for the moustache/beard.

They all went together to make this quilt.

And last, but not least,
I made this dotted block to go with a set of bowls.
Yes, another stack of bowls.
These are a second set I received from Madame Samm
(click here to see her story on why she sent me two sets of bowls.)

The finished wall hanging will look great hanging in my sewing room.

Watch For It.....Tomorrow!

It begins.....Monday....be there!

A few spots left on this hop--don't miss out on something
so wickedly fun you'll howl with delight.

This is new...and priceless!

"C" Is Not For Competitive

I've been asked if I'm competitive.
Just a little, tiny bit.
My kids have inherited that from me,
especially my oldest and youngest daughter.
My son-in-law is really competitive, too.

I like to win at card games, no doubt about it,
and it's safer if you stand back while my family is
playing a full round of Liverpool Rummy.
We're a rough and competitive card-playing family.
Other than that, I never feel the need to compete.

Anyway....
Not that it matters, but has anyone heard how many
dot projects "that other lady" is making?
Really, it doesn't matter, because
I am not competitive.

Speaking of dots.....2 days to dot launch!

"D" Is For Dots, "E" Is For Ellie

As I've mentioned before, those little blog hops motivate me to try new things....like applique and embroidery. Yes, I know that is one chunky looking "E", but I wanted it to stand out on the pink applique piece with yellow dots. Just don't look too close....I'm new at this embroidery and applique thing.

I ordered a silicone sheet from Connecting Threads so I could work on learning how to applique things. While browsing through all the fun stuff over in their online store, I saw my favorite Martinelli rotary cutter. My other one had broken (I used it a lot) and I hadn't found another one until...whoohoo....
THERE IT WAS!
I love this little cutter (if you were here, you would have seen me do a happy dance--it wasn't very graceful, but at least I was happy.) Thank you Connecting Threads for making my day!

By the way, it's
 3 days until....

Just Saying...You Inspire Me

In case I haven't mentioned it lately, you inspire me. I'm grateful for that! Your blog posts have kept me going through good times ...
