I love a good fairy tale and feel like one is never too old to enjoy stories like Cinderella, Snow White, and Little Red Riding Hood. Thanks to Joan from Moosestash Quilting for this great idea for a blog hop...Fairy Tales!
Vintage art is my kind of thing and I totally love this one, which I chose to reproduce in fabric. This has been a really fun project to work on!
Once Upon A Time
"Once Upon a Time", a poster by illustrator Kenneth Whitley, shows Little Red Riding Hood and a wolf. The poster was produced by the WPA Federal Art Project and published circa 1939.
There aren't any wolves in my backyard, but we do have some coyotes that hang around in the desert near us. I recreated the poster in my EQ8 program. Fabrics are Moda Grunge.

I love what you chose! The poster is fabulous and I love art of that era. You did a marvelous job on it. Kudos!
ReplyDeletegreat! so wonderful quiltet and worked. I love this fairytale... hugs from denmark, Ulrike :0)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilted rendition of a stylish poster!
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous job reproducing that poster onto fabric. I really must spend some serious time in my EQ8 and get proficient in it. I am still fumbling around but you seem to have mastered it. Well done!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I love your poster quilt!
ReplyDeleteI live the poster and your quilt variation!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome quilt! There is something about that vintage art that makes it very appealing--and it sure made a great quilt too!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is super wall quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love how clean and simple the design is yet speaks volumes translated to fabric. Modern stuff is great, but it just rarely can compete with vintage art. You’ve done a great job with this little quilt. Wouldn’t it be awesome hanging in the children’s section of a library.
ReplyDeleteWell that is just perfect! Even better than a poster. Love the old look to it and the simplicity of only a few colors. I might be looking at posters differently now Carol, lol! Which poster can I turn into a quilt??? Hmmm....see you got me thinking now, oh no!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is so cool. What a wonderful recreation. Great start to my day.
ReplyDeleteCarol, this is just amazing. I love what you have done. I know I've said it a zillion times, but I really need to make friends with EQ! LOL!! Thanks for playing in the hop with us.
ReplyDeleteLove your Red Riding Hood! I used to have nightmares about the wolf! Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh, how cute! There is just something about the art of that era! Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI love Red riding hood and the wolf. A great little mini.
ReplyDeleteYou have recreated this poster to a "T"! Absolutely adorable and fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat fabric rendition of this poster. I bet your thrilled to hang it!
ReplyDeleteSuper cool in every way. Such a great idea and so you! I love the way your mind thinks of design and ideas. You always inspire me.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet. Maybe a start of a garden fairy tale show?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tale to highlight, Carol. It's one of my favorite stories though I like most of them. I'm so glad Joan came up with this idea - Fairy Tales aren't told so much anymore. :(
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Carol!! Great job. I knew right away the reference, and I am 100% certain - heck 200% certain that the original artist would be tickled pink in your interpretation of the poster. And that wolf isn't quite as scary as one might imagine . . . which is a good thing in my book. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, that's a really great Red Riding Hood quilt.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful wall hanging! I love all fairy tales and Little Red Riding Hood is one of my favorites! Great job!
ReplyDeleteOh Carol You are so creative I love your Little Red Robin and the wolf. We have wolves in Sweden even now in the south of Sweden, where I live
ReplyDeleteThis story never goes out of fashion. Today's wolves may be somewhat different in appearance, but they are certainly around. I really like how you have brought this poster to life in fabric.
ReplyDeleteLittle Red Riding Hood is so impressive, beautiful job.
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe poster and quilt are just perfect for this fairy tale quilt along.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great poster made into a quilt, Carol! You are so talented. Thanks for sharing with us!! We have lots of coyotes here in Alabama too. Once when we had snow, we saw one lope down down the hill between our house and the neighbors. It was a little scary looking!
ReplyDeleteCarol I love that you transitioned the design from an art poster to a quilt. It is beautiful. I always enjoy seeing the sources of designer’s inspiration. Thank you for sharing your sweet quilt. She does look lovely in your yard.
ReplyDeleteI am always so amazed by people who are able to recreate artwork like this. Your poster to quilt finish is amazing! Thanks for sharing! -Andrea
ReplyDeleteLittle Red Riding Hood is one of my favorites. I love this 1930,s version.
ReplyDeleteI love your recreation of the 1930's poster! It's perfect! xx
