I'm the worst at making or keeping resolutions, especially if it involves eating less and exercising more. I definitely fail at those! Carla at Creatin' in the Sticks came up with a blog hop that I think works for me..."My Stitching Resolutions 2021." Thanks, Carla, great idea!
Carla's challenge was -- "This hop doesn't require stitching, it's all about your stitching plan for the new year. Let's share new ideas and inspiration. All you have to do is finish this statement in a blog post:
My stitching resolution for 2021 is _____________________________."
The first would have to be that I will try to keep my resolutions, but I will not beat myself up if I don't.
These are the amazing shelfs in my sewing room. They are begging for some organizations. I will clean and organize these shelfs for sure in 2021!
I will dig out that container of UFO's and decide which ones are worth finishing and which ones aren't. Say "bye-bye" to the not worth finishing things. I had to climb over a few things to get this picture of the container. It's buried way in the back of put-this-away-stuff.
I will get rid of fabric that no longer makes me happy. I tend to hold on to some fabric just because I might need it. After 10 years, I probably don't need it.
I will finish putting away all my sewing items that have been in storage. After moving, some of those boxes are still sitting there. It's not really fun to dig for things when I need it NOW. This is one of three containers that had things thrown into during the final moving days.
I will take time to play with my embroidery machine. I love watching it stitch, but when I'm pressed for deadlines I can't give up my sewing machine to play with it. The embroidery machine has only been out of this container twice since I bought it. I MUST use it!
I will start and finish the Cackling Stitches BOM in March. I'm so excited about this one! I enjoy every minute of the Cackling Stitches group. This isn't hard because it's fun to "hang out" on Facebook with other people who love Halloween as much as I do. Joan at Moosestash Quilting and I are hard at work getting some fun BOM's ready.
I will keep those blog hops going. I love all the quilty people I've met because of them.
I will teach at least one of the Monkey Boys how to sew. They love to sit on my lap while I sew, but it's time they learned a few things.
Finally, I will do my best to take the time to do all of the above.

ReplyDeleteLove your shelves. I have been working at organizing and cleaning up. So far I am doing pretty good. I am afraid of my 2 sewing rooms though. I have a less impressive embroidery machine. I start it running and then sew, press, cut while it is going. Great goals!

ReplyDeleteYou have a great plan list. Good luck with accomplishing at least a good portion of it, For me, being organized and knowing what I have and where is the greatest help with sewing projects and getting them done. Keeping UFOs at a minimum. None is the constant goal for me.

ReplyDeleteThose are some great resolutions, Carol. The ones about our sewing rooms are probably good ones for most of us to follow up on. I know I could do some (okay, a lot of) reorganizing and sorting myself! Oh, and using the machines we have is a great idea too--I don't use my serger much and need to figure out how to use it more. Have a great 2021--it has to be better than 2020!!
ReplyDeleteCarol those are some great "resolutions". Your shelves are beautiful. I can see how they could be a hinderance as well. They hold so much, I would always be thinking I should straighten them up and reorganize, but never get it done. Looking forward seeing your storm at sea quilt.
ReplyDeleteGreat list of opportunities for positive results. I'll be in my house for 6 years in February and I still have one of those boxes (minus the spider)sitting on my shelf that I route through a couple of times a year. Looking forward to hearing more about the Halloween BOM.
ReplyDeleteGreat goals! I'll pass on a tip for sewing with youngsters that Kathleen passed on to me: put the pedal on the table and have them press it with their hands. I do this with Fire Monkey while I feed the fabric--works great now that it's a bit cumbersome to sew with him on my lap. He also loves that my machine has a speed switch and he liked to turn it up! Your older monkey boys probably don't need the "pedal with the hands" trick but it's worked great with my 6-now-7 year old.

ReplyDeleteYour shelves are awesome!! And you have a lot of resolutions this year! That last pic with one of the monkey boys is so precious! I loved when my boys and girl would sit on my lap and "punch" the buttons for me! LOL Hopefully the girl will continue wanting to learn with her little machine. The boys...well, one is into swords and games and playing, and his twin is into STEM toys, which makes my heart sing! Who am I kidding, they all make my heart sing!! Thanks for sharing Carol. Looking forward to participating in some of those hops with you and Carla!
ReplyDeleteOh what I would give to have those shelves in my sewing room. They are awesome. I can't wait for the Crackling BOM to get started. Fun times are ahead for sure. I guess my other goal should have been to get myself a big Bernina this year too. I've got to sell my old machine before I can bring another big one into the house is the rule. I have always hated rules! LOL!!! Happy New Year.

ReplyDeleteYou have a very impressive list of stitching resolutions, my friend! Since I know you also have an impressive list of stitching accomplishments, I have no doubt that you will cut through these like a new rotary blade. I need to also let go of fabrics that no longer make me happy. Deciding how and where to find them a happier home may prove most difficult. Many possible places in our area are not accepting donations at this time. What is your plan for this, I wonder? . Looking forward to seeing all the beauty you will create ... :) Pat

ReplyDeleteSo many good resolutions! Good luck with them. One idea for the littlest of the monkey boys....pressing the foot control with the hand is much easier than the foot - used to use this with my son when he was young and a whole room of first graders did a 4 patch quilt that way!

ReplyDeletegreat shelves! and quilt those tops!! do you long arm or not, I forget! oh and you CAN quilt on the embroidery machine!! probably takes a long time, but it's possible! And get that machine going!! Look at dolls and daydreams for stuffies for your grandkids, or make pincushions in the hoop or purses from embroidery garden!? and use those ugly 10yo fabrics for backings ;)
