Christmas Joy Sew Along Quilt With Therm O Web

It was really a "Christmas Joy" to put together blocks and a quilt for Therm O Web's

sew along. "Christmas Joy" used applique and pieced blocks to create a 50" x 58" quilt.

My hubby and I took a drive to Snow Canyon in Southern Utah to take photos.

It was a gorgeous day!

Joy Christmas Banner

Hanging a banner in your home or on a door can sweetly announce an event or holiday.

A banner that says “Happy Birthday” or “Welcome Home” will definitely bring a smile to

a face during a joyous occasion. Holidays are especially fun to celebrate with a banner.

The “Joy” banner announces Christmas with a small but happy expression of the holiday.

Supplies:

Heat n Bond Lite, Iron-on Adhesive or Heat n Bond Ultrahold Adhesive, No-Sew

Crafter’s Edge Crossover II

Crafter’s Edge Flag Pennant die

Thread

Oliso Iron

Double fold bias tape (one package)

Michael Miller Happy Holly-Days 10” x 10” squares

Burlap

If you don’t want to sew around the applique edges, Heat N Bond Ultrahold is a great product

to use to assemble the banner. Just iron the applique pieces in the same way you would if

using Heat n Bond Lite, but the only sewing you’ll need to do is to sew the bias tape in place.

The Crafter’s Edge Crossover II makes cutting out fabric and paper a breeze. They have a lot

of sewing dies to choose from, including Crafter’s Edge Flag Pennant die. The dies have

cutting edges that aren’t sharp, but when run through the machine they easily cut fabric.

Virtual Cookie Exchange 2019 Day Five And My Day

I always feel sad on the last day of any blog hop, but especially the Virtual Cookie Exchange.

It's so fun to see the yummy goodies and sweet projects that make us all smile.

These are one of the Monkey Boys favorite recipes and I have to agree, I love them, too!

Indoor S'mores Bars

I did some designing for Therm O Web's "Christmas Joy Sew Along" recently and so that's what

I'm sharing today. The blocks are free and each block, appliqued and pieced, will measure

unfinished at 8½” x 8½”. You can use them in a 50” x 58” quilt, “Christmas Joy”, which will be

released December 11th. Click on each design to get the PDF downloadable pattern.

Snowman (make 2)

Santa (make 2)

Christmas Tree (make 5)

Stocking (make 4)

There are pieced blocks in this quilt, too.

HSTs (make 12 for quilt)

Cut 6 – 9½” x 9½” dark squares (hourglass block)

Cut 6 – 9½” x 9½” light squares (hourglass block)

You’ll need one light square and one dark square to make two blocks.

Draw a line diagonally on wrong side of light square.

Place right sides of squares together. Sew a 1/4" seam along both sides of the drawn line.

Cut the block along the drawn line to create two blocks.

Open and press fabrics to the dark side.

On one of the blocks, draw a diagonal line opposite from the seam on the wrong side of fabric.

With right sides together and nesting the seam, sew 1/4" along both sides of the drawn line.

Cut the blocks along the drawn line. Open and press seams toward the side.

Trim blocks to 8½” x 8½”. Repeat to make a total of 12 blocks.

For the whole quilt you'll need:

White – 1 5/8 yard

Dark Green – 7/8 yard pieced borders or 1 1/2 yards borders cut lengthwise

Yellow – 3/8 yard

Red – 1 1/2 yards pieced borders or 1 3/4 yards borders cut lengthwise

Light Green – 1/4 yard

Black – 1/8 yard

Quilt backing – 3 3/4 yards (add extra if needed for quilting)

We've already done our traditional gingerbread house making event.
I found some already put together houses at Target and it made things so much easier.
No crumbled messes! Messes, but they weren't the houses...just candy.

I Like Thursday Post #4

It's another "I Like Thursdays" with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color.

Last week was a busy Thursday, so I missed out on posting.

It's been a busy time because we spent two weeks out-of-town.

There were a lot of likes happening!

I like birthdays...

Birthday celebration of Monkey Boy #4. He turned seven...where has the time gone!

His mom made his cake just how he wanted it.
We also celebrated birthdays for Monkey Boy #2 and the Monkey Boy's mom.

I like seeing old friends...

We went to our friend's funeral. It was bittersweet because we got to see so many long time

friends, but such a broken heart to have him be gone. It was like a family reunion to be together

with all of our friends. We grew up with most of them while raising our families.

The good news out of it was the planning of a reunion in April. It will be so sweet!

I like family adventures...

Ethel M's in Las Vegas has a beautiful Christmas light show every year.

We've missed it for several years, but made it happen this month.

It wasn't as freezing as it usually is, so it was really enjoyable to walk around.

I like my big sewing machine to not be broken...

I did some sewing while I was gone, but my big machine was still broken so it was hard to quilt

the bigger quilts I needed done. We got home today and picked up my sweet machine as we

headed to our house. I did a very happy dance as I placed it in it's spot in my sewing room.

My poor sewing room is a disaster from trying to hurry and finish things before I left town

and then dumping everything in there when I came home. Wowzers!

This is awful and needs a good organization and clean up to happen!

I like traditions...

We got together for our traditional gingerbread house decorating.

Yes, there were dinosaurs!

I like pincushions I don't make...

I came home to two cute pincushions from Beaquilter's pincushion exchange.

I like airbags more than ever now...

My daughter got in an accident and every one of the airbags went off.

She had a slight concussion and some soreness, but she was lucky!

I like concerts watching the Monkey Boys...

Monkey Boy #2 plays the cello. He's right there in the middle on the edge.

Monkey Boy #4 was mixed in among tons of other kids to sing Christmas songs.

I like pizza and I'm glad Monkey Baby does too...
