Craftsy Is Making Changes So How Will It Affect My Patterns

Yes, Craftsy is making more changes but this one is sending a lot of us into panic mode. Emails
were sent out to pattern designers who use Craftsy for their sales. The good news is, I was one
of the lucky ones to get an email that said they weren't deleting my store from their site.
The bad news is there were several very talented designers who are losing their stores and
some of the patterns in my store may be deleted. At this time, I have no idea which patterns
are getting the boot so if you have any patterns in any store on Craftsy that you haven't
downloaded yet, hustle over and get it now just in case. I'll be downloading a few, too.

If there are some patterns you've been thinking about buying and you don't know if the
store is being deleted, it's time to grab those ASAP. Since my store will stay open, if there's
a pattern that disappears it may end up in the Etsy store I just started today so all is good.
According to Craftsy we won't be able to download new patterns until "later in 2019."
For that reason, I opened an Etsy store, but I'm not giving up on Craftsy.

Craftsy has offered FREE SERVICE for a lot of years and they've helped designers like me have
a place to sell patterns or offer them for free. I'm grateful for all the years they were there for me.
When the dust settles, we may end up being charged to use their site...we will see.
My only complaint is that this is happening at Christmas and with only a weeks notice.
I'd rather be eating cookies than worrying about what I'm going to do.

To ease the pain of this change,
I'll send the first five people who comment on this post a free PDF pattern of their choice from
my Craftsy store. Just leave a comment telling me "I want a pattern" and which one you want.
If you're one of the five, leave me your email address if you aren't absolutely sure I
already have it. You can leave it in code if you're worried about those naughty
computer robots snatching it...sewswift at gmail dot that.
I'll email you the pattern ASAP.

With Christmas just around the corner, I hope you're all filling your tummy's with goodies,
shopping until you're dropping, and getting ready for loads of family to descend upon you.

Merry Christmas!

P.S. There's always room for you in the Show Your Wings Blog Hop!

You need to have something in your project that involves wings or that flies.
That means it can have...

Flying geese (yes, that counts!)
Birds of any kind
Butterflies or dragonflies
Airplanes or helicopters
Fairies or dragons
I think you get the picture, don't you?

Just send me an email telling me you want to be a part of the hop.

You’ve got to be kidding me??? This is just ridiculous.... but typical since it was sold out They said it wouldn’t affect us but yet.... here we are! So disappointed!

I am one of the lucky ones as well but also received a notice that they might delete some of my patterns. So will they want to approve every single pattern we upload in the future? How is that even supposed to work? I agree with you, doing this just days before Christmas sucks big time.

I was just trying to get going with some patterns there! Yuk!!!

This is such a nightmare and, like you said, a terrible time of the year to make these decisions.

Wow, that is a bummer! However, it's nice they have offered this service for so long. I looked at your shop and grabbed several free patterns that I didn't already have. If I could have another pattern (and I know there have been more than 5 comments already), I would choose Wings of a Butterfly. I sure appreciate the availability of all your designs!

Hi Carol! Wowee - I am so sorry to hear that. I wonder how they came to this decision. I was hoping to get into the free pattern market myself at some point. Oh well, maybe when the dust settles. I would love to be a part of Show Your Wings blog hop in February if there is still room! And most of all, I want to wish a very Merry Christmas to you and your family! ~smile~ Roseanne

I"m so sorry to hear that, Carol! I was actually thinking about trying selling on Craftsy! Oh well, I'll just keep selling on my website. Thanks for the heads up. I'm glad you already have another venue to sell your wonderful patterns.

Warning ~ grab your cup of coffee since this is long

First I will vent over all this because I have many, MANY things I have marked as a favorite so that I can buy them later as I got the ability to do so. I can't buy all I want as I'm not rich. But, this is a horrible bit of timing for them to do this! SO many people won't be able to buy things they wanted to because they have gifts for friends and family that are a higher priority right now. They could have chosen another time of the year, or not said, he we're closing things down but not all and it will be a surprise which will remain and we're going to do that in less than a week.

I just saw a hint of this yesterday when I received an email from a pattern designer which I had ordered multiple patterns from here on Craftsy. Each email said there was a new update to the pattern and as usual, gave me the link to download the "updated" pattern. And after their last change, doing so, just takes you to your account for all your previous purchases, requiring you to do a search to find anything. I did that for each of them (I think there were about 12 of those pattern 'updates') so that took awhile to locate each. Nothing was coming up, so I had to do multiple variations to locate each.
SO frustrating! BUT, that was not as frustrating as it was once I was able to locate each one and after downloading each one again to the folder they were stored in, I unzipped one and found there was no update at all. She had tagged all her patterns as update and put a PDF inside for each one so anyone who has ever gotten anything from her would have gotten these. The PDF just had a long line of word saying Craftsy is changing their business model and are removing a lot of designers, so she is quitting and removing all her designs to support the other designers.
I tried searching Craftsy for her pattern/design store but now that is nowhere to be found. It appears that once marked all her files as updates so anyone who purchased from her in the past would get the update notification email like I had gotten, she then deleted all her patterns/designs from Craftsy. The purchases are still available in my download area.
What she didn’t think of, is the fact there is no way to locate her off of Craftsy in any of her zip files, so she’s hurting herself by supporting her friends. No one can ever find her again now. I spent about 15 minutes doing all sorts of different iterations of her name that I could possibly use to try to locate her and never did. I gave up and I’m guessing many others won’t spend that amount of time searching for her as I have.

I am not one of the first 5 to comment, but if I had been, I would have chosen Christmas Is Coming! Table Runner.

I heard about this from another person, but she just said Craftsy was closing her store. Makes me wonder if Craftsy will even be sticking around that much longer.

They had a good thing going, but after selling out their classes part to another company, and before that the "update" that they made which made it really impossible to search for a pattern anymore, I am sure a lot of people just like me quit using it so much. I don't have the time to waste trying to find what I want.

Carol, you are wise to have created an Etsy store. I don't think Craftsy will be around much longer.

I do hope after the dust settles, the changes will not be bad.
I hope changes are being made to protect people and not just a money making scheme on their part.
Best wishes to all of the amazing wonderful craftsy people

I have so many of your patterns and love them all. This is a terrible thing for Craftsy to do!!I download the patterns as I get them ... I hope I haven't missed any!! Wherever you go, I will follow but I think it's a terrible thing for them to do to loyal shop owners and customers. Grr ...

These changes couldn't have come at the busiest time of the year and only giving a week's notice? That's total BS! Craftsy's timing really sucks the big one.

So glad to hear your Craftsy store will not be totally kicked to the curb. I think this is only Phase 1 of changes to come. They're cleaning house to make future changes easier for them to implement. I do believe that Craftsy will end up charging fees to designers selling their patterns and that this will happen before designers will be able to start adding patterns again later in 2019.

Craftsy has been free to use since it's start and many, many talented designers have become popular because of Craftsy (and also because of Madame Samm's (sigh) blog hops). It's unfortunate that a lot of these designer's will no longer be able to sell their patterns on Craftsy.

Carol, best of luck to you with these changes.

On a brighter side, wishing your and your family a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy new year!

I don't have a shop there, and I did have over 1200 downloaded patterns. Since the company changed hands, I haven't cared for the changes, and this capped it. I had my account deleted and won't be using the service any longer. I can't support something that is in such opposition to everything I believe is morally right.

They can do whatever they'd like with their business, but I can shop wherever I'd like with my dollars, and that isn't Craftsy. I wish you luck with your store, and think you are wise to start the Etsy shop. Merry Christmas!

Susan said...

By the way, I was told by the person who deleted my account that any patterns already purchased by anyone will not be removed from their accounts.

Like old Etsy, Craftsy was too good to be true. These vultures sweep in and buy companies that are going great and change them so that many present customers desert them. New customers find them and not knowing how they USED to be, love them. And so it goes. Something tells me that Craftsy owners have some other changes in mind for the future and that's why they are freeing space on the site.
xx, Carol
