It's The Last Day Of The Virtual Cookie Exchange Blog Hop

I've been in sweet treat heaven this week!
Have you been loving all the recipes that were shared during the
Virtual Cookie Exchange Blog Hop? I have!
It's the last day (darn!) and I really wish everyone had come to my house to exchange cookies
so I could taste those treats right now! What's a few extra calories among friends!
Thank you, sweet ladies, for sharing your recipes.

Well...now it's my turn to share some recipes!

I love chocolate.
 I love oatmeal.
I love nuts.
I love anything with the above combination, so...
I made some Double Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies!

Layering the ingredients in a one quart Mason jar makes for a great way to share them with others.

Baking instructions:

*Right click on the candy cane framed recipe and instructions to save them to your computer.

Hints to make adding ingredients easier:
Wash bottles and make sure they are completely dry.
Use a wide mouth funnel to add ingredients.
Be sure to tamp each layer down firmly before adding next ingredient.
Using the flat bottom of a narrow glass works for tamping down.
Use a spatula or paper towel to wipe bottle edges after each addition.

Want a little variety in those gift bottles?

You could replace the walnuts and chocolate chips with...

 M&M's

White Chocolate Chips

Peanut Butter Chips

Almonds, Craisins, Chocolate Chips

I ran across an easy recipe using Ritz crackers, which were yummy in the recipe I made a couple
years ago using them with chocolate and mint (find it HERE.) These were pretty darn good, too!

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Cookies

It's surprising that a Ritz cracker can taste so good as a sweet cookie!

The Monkey Boys made some, too. The little monkey ate his own cookies,
because for some reason no one wanted the ones he made.

One more cookie recipe...
My side of the family came from Norway, so I grew up eating lefse and hearing my
great-grandmother talk with her heavy accent. I thought we were the only Norwegian's around!
Then I met my hubby and learned his family was also Norwegian.
His mom had a recipe from "Aunt Emma" for Norwegian Butter Cookies.
They are delicate cookies shaped like a wreath or pretzel. Mine never turned out so good.
Of course, my mother-in-law's were always perfect.
I gave it another try for this hop and tada...success! Okay, a little lopsided, but still good.

I used a cookie scoop to get consistent sized balls/cookies.

Since I don't always have success making those little loopy cookies,
and sometimes I'm a bit lazy, I just made them into balls, flattened them,
sprinkled them with sugar, and baked. They are just as yummy!

More yumminess:

Merry Christmas...a long time ago

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed the recipes!

  1. It has been a fun hop! Good job pulling it all together, and thank you very much! Certainly enjoyed YOUR post! I've always wanted to make cookies in a jar but never have. Perhaps with your gentle nudge, this will be the year! XO

  3. All your cookies look delicious!

And the mason jar cookie mix would be such a pretty gift to give. In my experience, mason jar gifts are almost always well received, especially by teachers because it's something that can be enjoyed after the Christmas rush. It's also something that gets used up and not set on a shelf gathering dust.

Thanks so much for organizing this blog hop Carol. I had fun planning my post and giggled a lot yesterday while photographing it. It was fun as well to discover new blog and new recipes. Aloha hugs!

Thanks for hosting a fun light-hearted hop, so great you made it a family affair, lotsa talent in your family though I would leave the little guy to his cookies too...great strategy to stake your claim :) I appreciated being able to share a few calories among friends, thank you!

  5. Thank you for sharing these great cookie recipes. I really like adding oatmeal to cookies--makes me think they are a little more healthy! LOL I'm going to add your recipes to the others I have saved. Hopefully, I will be able to try a new recipe or 2 this year. (I just had one cataract removed and am having the 2nd removed Dec. 16--kind of changed some of my Christmas plans.) I love seeing pictures of your grandsons helping you, also. Aren't grandkids the most fun!

Thank you for hosting this blog hop. It has been great fun, and I love collecting new cookie recipes. If I don't get them done for Christmas, I can make them anytime this coming year. Also, thanks for sharing the cookies in a jar ideas. Great gifts! (I love your quilt!)

  12. Hi Carol! What a huge success this initial virtual cookie exchange this turned out to be!! I hope it becomes an annual idea! It was so nice to meet new folks. I loved meeting your sister and your daughter...mommy of your precious Monkey Boys!! I told Lindsay how attached we, out here in quiltland, are to them through our shared quilting moments. I made a little cookbook of all the wonderful recipes which I will share with my sisters! As a teacher, my favorite gifts are jars of cookie mixes. You have some super ideas (which I also printed out) for the jars! Today and tomorrow I am in baking mode. Monday is our book club cookie exchange and then I can start Christmas ideas!
Thanks for a great week! Hope your holiday is wonderful...mary pat
