Just A Few Bumps In The Farmer's Wife Road

There are two different Farmer's Wife 1930's sew/quilt alongs going on right now.
I'm a little late to the party, but I hear it's still okay to join the fun!
But, there have been a few bumps in the road.

I accidently ordered the wrong book. I thought I ordered the 1930's book, but no...
this one arrived. Nice book, but not the right one to be part of the quilt along.

No bump occurred with the arrival of the fabric I wanted to use, thank goodness.
Moda's Kindred Spirits fabric by Bunny Hill Designs rang my bell for this quilt.

Once the correct book arrived, I had it spiral bound for ease of use.
Other than the lazy attitude of the clerk at the office supply store, the book is ready to use.

Here's the big bump, three to be exact.
My hubby and I went out to move a rack in the garage a few days ago and I failed to see this on top.

It landed directly on top of my head and bounced on down to my forehead and eyebrow.
OUCH! It didn't break the skin, but I got three bumps and a nasty headache that still lingers.

Then...

I paper pieced Block #1, Addie, and found the seams not matching up as well as I want them to.
I'll be ripping them out and lining them up better as soon as I can sit at my sewing machine.
Another bump...I've somehow hurt my back. Ugh!

I'm trying not to think I am somewhat cursed with this attempt at The Farmer's Wife,
so I'll take the Pollyanna road and just call it a bit of misfortune that will all work out soon.
I can't wait to fix this block and move on to the other ones!

If you want to join in with this adventure (hopefully, it will go more smoothly for you),
here's both of the blogs who are running the Farmer's Wife sew/quilt along.
Both of them have so many amazing hints and ideas for making all the blocks.

  1. I am so sorry you got such a nasty bump. Your FW block will be fine after you re-stitch it. I do really like your fabrics. Healing Energy Dear...

  2. That's not even funny - glad you weren't more seriously hurt. I have both of these books and plan to do both, but not until the beginning of next year.

  3. Ouch! Did DH heavily insure you recently and his diabolical plan was to knock you off with the light? Hope you feel better, ice for the head bumps, and ice/heat for the back. Can't wait to see your farmer's wife progress.

  11. Your Addie block is fine as it is. Once it is with all the other blocks and quilted the odd mismatched seam/point won't matter. I too struggled with paper-piecing Addie and couldn't match up the point perfectly. I hope you continue and have fun with your new book and fabric. I also hope your bruises fade and you don't incur any more.

  15. Sorry to hear of your bump!! I cringed as I read about this, yikes!! The letters in the first one are wonderful too...even if you don't make the blocks. Addie is looking beautiful in those soft shades. Be careful, my friend...no more accidents!! I am just returned form a wild west tour so am slow to catch up.

  16. I am sure your FW is not cursed. Just some Halloween gremlins up to their old tricks. Hope all your "boo-boos" heal in time for Halloween fun with the Monkey Boys.

  17. Hope your head is feeling better Carol!
A couple weeks ago I saw the first book at the Boulder City Library and got pretty excited thinking I might jump in too, then realized it is not the same book! It does look like a good one, however I am still on a strict UFO-only diet and have no business dangling temptations...
That fabric bundle is to die for..

  18. Hi Carol! I'm posting a test comment to see if I corrected my no reply blogger status. It turned out to be a bit more complicated than I expected and I may have made it worse. Thank you for you help!
