It's A Flowery Day For Me And You!

+ 2 Extra Days!

It's my turn to play cheerleader on this one...whoohoo!
It's finally here! I've been so excited just waiting for this day to arrive.
I've heard there are lots of others who are pretty excited, too!

Madame Samm comes up with some of the most creative and
inspiring blog hops, doesn't she! She's got some amazing sponsors, too...
check out this giveaway from Andover on her blog:

Today is MY day to show you what I made with flowers.

I love those felt pillows that are so popular, but I didn't have any felt, so
I improvised and used some red fabric and Comma fabric to create this pillow.
It was so easy to make after checking out a few tutorials online.
Even my kids liked it so I will definitely be making more!

I had fun making this quilt with some Charisma fabric I've been holding on to
(I still have LOTS more), which started with a pattern by Sunset Crochet and Quilt
called 3-D Flowers Quilt. It was an easy quilt with great instructions, but I did different
flowers because I'd already started making some and didn't want to remake more.
(I do tend to veer off from pattern instructions, anyway.)
I used the vintage buttons I found on my little outing last week.

I tried a new way to add binding and loved this method, mainly because I'm
not great at hand sewing binding on and this way is done totally by machine!
I found it HERE.

If you're interested, here's how I made the flowers...if not, scroll on down to
see who else is hopping and see the GIVEAWAY.

I love these templates for cutting different sizes. Yes, I do have an Accuquilt, Big Shot,
AND a Vagabond to cut out shapes, but of course, none of them were the exact size I needed.
Start by cutting six circles out of your fabric for each flower...I made 5 1/2 inch circles.
(I love those little clips for keeping them all together.)
Fold one circle in half and baste on the raw edge
(it doesn't have to be perfect.)
When you reach the end, pull up the gathers and start on the next folded
circle using the same string of thread to connect them together.
Keep going with the other circles.
When you finish the sixth petal, pull them tight and
stitch the first petal to the last petal to make the flower.
They are so EASY you could make a garden full of them!

Oooo....a giveaway, too!

Cherry from Cherry's Prairie Primitives makes such cute little dogs (and lots of other things),
so I bought one just for this occasion--she added that flower for me...too cute...and it could
be YOURS if you win! There will be a some mystery fat quarters thrown in the package, too.

SILLY LITTLE RULES TO ENTER MY GIVEAWAY:
  1. Leave a short and sweet comment.
  2. This one is important! Make sure I can contact you if you're a no-reply blogger. *If you don't get a reply from me, you're a no-reply blogger or something else is screwed-up.
  3. I'll mail it anywhere...yes, even to the other side of the world.
  4. Giveaway ends at 6 p.m. PST on June 4thEntries after 6 p.m. PST on June 4th will not be included in the giveaway.

Remembering Those Who Gave Their All

I am grateful for those who have served their country to protect me...

...but, I am sad for those who lost their lives doing so.

Genealogy research has always been a big part of my life. In those searches for family
members, I found many who served their country and came home
...and sadly, many who didn't.
Beverly Seaman and others of his crew were killed in a bombing mission during
World War II. He served with the 742nd Bomber Squadron, 455th Bomb Group.

Beverly was my 1st cousin once removed. I never met him...he died long before I was born.

This one came home and I am so grateful for that!

I'm Seeing Flowers EVERYWHERE!

There are flowers in my yard AND in my sewing room!
(FYI--There are no little grasshoppers in my sewing room.)

Just five more days until we start hopping in Say It With Flowers!
 I'm so excited!

I'm Running...I Mean Retreating

I said "YES" to a QUILT RETREAT in June.

WHAT WAS I THINKING!

My friend, Brenda, said it would be fun...she loves going to them.
I've never been to one, so it seems kind of scary to go sit among some
very accomplished quilters and pretend that I know what I'm doing when I sew.

I asked her if I'd have to...eeek...be social?
She said "YES", I do have to be social.

Like...talk to people and be friendly?
Yep, she said I have to be nice because they are nice people.

I'll have to sew...in front of people?
She said that's the main idea of a retreat.

Really?

I have two and one half weeks to get ready.
This should be interesting!

2 Cents Equals $730?

My eight year old grandson caught a mistake on a restaurant's receipt...
do you see the mistake?

$11.20 + $0.91 = $12.11
NOT $12.13!

My son-in-law (the new math graduate) used it as a teaching moment for
my grandson who was analyzing the numbers on the receipt.

That smart little Monkey Boy figured out that if 100 people ate at that restaurant each day
and they were open everyday of the year, they would make an extra $730.
Wow! Makes me wonder how often I've given two extra cents (or  more) and didn't know it!
I'll be keeping a better eye on my receipts from now on.

P.S. Only six days until Say It With Flowers!

Blooming Flowers And Vintage Buttons

Our front yard was in bloom this weekend with these...

...and these. I think they bloomed just for me in honor of the
Say it With Flowers blog hop that's coming up.
A trip to a vintage and handmade jewelry shop, Main Street Boutique,
in Hurricane, Utah, had me digging in piles of vintage/antique buttons in search
of some old coat buttons to use on my next quilt. I wasn't disappointed
in my search and was so lucky to have Janet dig out even more big buttons
just for me. It was so fun and it was such a cute shop!

In just a few more days we'll start seeing some hopping going on with
flowers, flowers, and more flowers. Be sure to come back to see what
blooms from May 27th to June 4th (we added two days)!
